Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

But feel like a D-bag for it.


I guess when I think of these guitars I think of metal heads but my bro has one as first guitar and now plays a gibby so its just laying around my house. I love the neck and jumbo frets but hate the way the body looks.

Ibanez RGs are some sweet playing guitars, plain and simple. Feeling silly for playing a guitar that plays really well is kind of, er.... silly.

It's a tool for a certain job.

I like my Bensalem RG750. It's a very well built axe and when I grab it does a certain job exceptionally well.

i play 'em in my dreams, but i don't like they way they feel in my hands in real life. kool guitars though. I may own another one someday... who knows.

I don't like their 6's for the most part, but I think they make the best production-model 7 string.

You wouldn't believe it, but I've never played an Ibanez. Actually I did play an ibanez that belonged to a friend of my little bro. I was about 15 at the time and I had just gotten my first boner for the LP so naturally I hated it. I really need to play one again, my tastes are a little more diverse now. My carvin actually reminds me of those, thin neck-thru shred master.

If I could pick one guitar to permanently not exist anymore, it would be the Ibanez RG.

I'm just sayin, they've got Jacksons right there, Charvels over there, a big stack of Kramers over there...who needs RG's?

I grew up on Ibanez...the only one I play now is a early 80s semi-hollow, which of course is nothing like an RG. Every time I play an Ibanez RG, S, Jem, etc it just feels amazing to me. Best playing guitars around, in my opinion, and I've played just about everything on earth. :-) Tonally they don't really do what I need much of the time, and the aethetics are rather dated in a non-classic way, but they have a special place in my heart...

I like some RG's too. I don't own one anymore, but I've owned two in the past and played several more. The first one was an RG470 that was just plain awful. It was all black (I don't like all black guitars) and it sounded very spongy, dark and muddy. I've only had that guitar for about a month and then sold it as quickly as I could. In return, I bought a 1991 RG550 that I loved to death! Punchy, with a sharp attack, great definition, lots of mids, brilliant hardware (gotta love the Edge tremolo!) and fantastic looks. It was finished in coral myst, a metallic dark red finish, with a black pickguard and an all maple neck with matching red headstock. I loved that guitar, but I didn't play it all that much anymore, I play Strats most of the time, so I recently sold it and got a G&L Legacy Special.

It was a great axe though!

I think RG's are the best looking super strats. I'm GASsing for one. (Actually a JEM, is the RG a decendant of the JEM?)

I really like my rga 121 a lot. It has a great fixed bridge, a slightly more traditional body shape and a beautiful feeling neck. In my opinion it's really the perfect guitar for where I'm at now. In contrast my Jackson hasn't been messed with in years.

Sigh....I would love to have the neck off that guitar. I have a 550 body I'm painting right now! old skool neon pink to boot!

I can appreciate the nice Japanese ones. The Korean ones don't look or feel any better than your typical "Kia-Tar" to me.

Unfortunately I just don't get along with those Wizard necks, and I really don't like their trems. Even the nice Edge ones feel flimsy and piece-part-ish compared to a real Floyd.

Keep in mind that I'm probably the 2nd biggest Kramer fanatic that visits here besides KramerAmsterdam, and I would NEVER EVER think about selling my 89 470 that's factory equipped w/ an edge. While they're both in the same genre of guitars. Kramers and Ibanez RGs are really different guitars.


Man putting it like that, I just realized my RG is at least 18 years old!

I have a few Ibanez rg's i have a 7620 from 2000 and the neck is killer,
i mostly play that or a jem7bsb or a gibson joe perry les paul with chunky neck

I would love them if they had necks that fit my hand and they didnt have Basswood bodies. I think they look great though. I like other Ibanez guitars though. They always seem to be a good bang for the buck axe.

Brent, don't forget me in the Kramer fanatic kamp. ;) I may have only one right now, but I love the things.

The JEM is actually a decendant of the RG. It was introduced at the same NAMM show in 1987. The RG came out in 1986. The "improved" RG was introduced in 1987 at the same NAMM show as the JEM.

The only RG I like is the PGM model. The neck is a little thicker than the typical Wizards. I never could get along with the Wizard neck for any more than a short time. I'm not a huge fan of the Edge trem either.
