Anybody else tried DR Dragon Skin strings?

It's their line of coated strings.

IMO they're absolutely terrible. Tried a 10-46 set in my Ibanez and they were extremely dull out of the box.
They have no spank, cleans were dull and overdriven sounds were muddy.
They weren't warm like say EB Rock n Roll strings. They were just crap, no brightness at all, no snap and no definition.
The attack is by far the worst I've heard, it made my guitar sounds like it's made of cardboard! Like the strings were 9 months old.
Just a dull THUNK sound. They were one week old!

Dragon Skins and some LaBellas I bought are the absolute worst in strings I've ever tried.
Only good thing I can say is they didn't feel plastic like say Elixirs. But they sound terrible so who cares?

Replaced them with some GHS Sub Zero Boomers I had around and man is it much better. My tone is back!

I'll just stick to Elixirs I think. If you ask me, stay away from Dragon Skins!

If you've been playing Elixirs (I like coated strings- Elixirs, Cleartones, etc), try the Ernie Ball Cobalts. They seem to last as long and maintain their tone like the coated strings, and are easy to play.

I use Dragon Skins on my acoustic and I haven't had the problem you encountered. The acoustic version sounds fresh and bright out of the box and seem to last longer, too. No complaints yet.

The electric DS, I don't like so much. Tone didn't seem too bad, but they didn't feel right to me for playing electric. Too gummy or something.

I've only tried elixers on acoustic...not worth the money in my opinion.

I've used Dragon Skins and I think they sound fine; very similar to DR Tite Fits. OTOH you seem to like GHS Boomers which I find unusably bright.

Different strokes for different folks maybe?

I've tried one and prefer elixirs more but It does its job well my Red Devil strings last and last I've been using 1 set for 4 months now (it's not even red anymore now).

I like the DR colors for electric, they look cool and have a nice feel. Clear tones are great for acoustic. Honestly I think unless you live in a very humid climate there's really no need for coated strings, I tend to just beat the coating off of them and end up with ratty looking normal strings.

As for the Dragonskins in particular for this discussion, the Dragonskin string is hard coated, which adds to the sound, as opposed to some other brands that use soft coating. In addition, the coating provides extra protection against corrosion and tough environments.

They are a Phosphor Bronze unique hard coating. 92% Copper- 8% Zinc.

Common Acoustic material is usually Phosphor Bronze. You'll be pleased to know that our hard coating process will add to the sound rather than muffle it. Let us know what you think, we are very open to questions, comments or concerns.

Damn, I'm impressed by this. I had a terrible experience with some rusty LaBella strings many years ago, I actually wrote to their e-mail to complain and never got an answer!
