Does anybody here use this pickup set, If so what do you think of it?
I have been doing some reading but I like to get impressions from people actually using the pickups. So guys, what do you think of the SH-6?

Re: Anybody here using the Distortion Meyhem SH-6 set?

Seymour Duncan Distortion is the greatest pickup ever

Hmm, care to elaborate a bit? 50 different people say the same thing about 50 different pickups...so why do you think this one is the best?

i love them because they have that good metal chunk on the chords and they scream on the leads

Re: Anybody here using the Distortion Meyhem SH-6 set?

i can vouch that i does tight, violent CH-CH-CH-Chugging-distortion on chords, the pinch harmonics leap off but with alot of singing tone. def great thrash pickup, wayne static, randyrhoads, early dokken, meliah rage. some call it an Emg81 passive w more character. i cannot put mine down however i dont play detuned mayhem, just thrash, industrial, and hairmetal. but damn i LOVE this pickup in every guitar ive tried it in

Re: Anybody here using the Distortion Meyhem SH-6 set?

Have the neck and bridge in my ESP/LTD, love them both. The SH6 bridge is in fact louder than the EMG-81 in my Torero, and a bit thicker, too. The neck pickup has a good bit of power to it as well, and really sings when the tone is rolled off. If you need them to clean up, add a series/parallel switch.

Hmm...they are going on the short list then.

Please allow me to be #51!

The Duncan Distortion is my "go to" pickup! I've used it for 25 years. It screams but I've learned to tame it when neccessary, but I didn't buy it for "tame".......

What kind of guitar are we talking about here anyway? No one set of pickups is gonna work for evey guitar!

I think you got him confused with the JB, he didn't use a DD. But it would still work either way.

I haven't used a DD yet but I'd really like to get the set as well. Not sure what the neck pup will be like but for what I hear about the bridge I'm pretty sure it'll be heaven in a pickup.

I have read in a few places he used a SD Distortion in one of his guitars. I also read he used a combo of SD Distortions and/ Dimarzio Distortion in one of his guitars. There is other info to suggest he used TB-4/SH2..etc. He had quite a few guitars and the most of the V's were prototypes. IIRC, his Jackson V, the black one used a combination of the SD Jazz and SD Distortion.

It's a small all maple Steinberger, with a HSH combination.

I liked it for years, but I'm starting to move towards lower output pickups...

You liked the SH-6 for years?
Isn't this a high output pickup?

Randy Rhoads actually used a Dimarzio Super Distortion not a JB

Re: Anybody here using the Distortion Meyhem SH-6 set?

Just to set the record straight he used a super distortion and PAF in his Sandoval V. Sandoval says it was dual PAF's but Randy has said a few times it's a super distortion so either he changed it at one point or someone's confused. His Gibson LPC was stock 74 pups. Both of his Jacksons were JB/jazz sets.

So he used both the super distortion and the JB but no known instances of a duncan distortion.

Edit: His sandoval came stock with white pups and knobs and chrome hardware. At some point he switched it to black pups and knobs and I believe black hardware. That might be when he switched to a super distortion.

There is information out there that says he did use Seymour Duncans...Remember he had multiple guitars, they all used different pickups.
IIRC, atleast 1 of his prototype V's used seymours...possibly 2. He did use a Dimarzio SD also though.

Also? The Dimarzio Super Distortion is what he used most of the time. It is his signature sound.

Yeah the super distortion in mahogany was all over blizzard, then for diary he had is all maple jackson with the JB. Then on tour he got his black one which is either alder or poplar also with JB. Ever wonder why Jackson Rhoads come stock with the JB/Jazz set? I know 80s and 90s Rhoads were poplar and sometime around the fender ownership is when they switched to alder. So I'm not sure what his black one was. His white one that he never got I believe is poplar.

What about the stock Les Paul pickups? The pickups in his V's....all part of his sound.
There is more to RR's sound then then just the Dimarzio SD sound.
He used ALL of his guitars for the various songs on the albums and live shows.

Re: Anybody here using the Distortion Meyhem SH-6 set?

And Randy alos used stock Gibsons in his Les Paul. But that's not why ew are here.

The Distoriton is my favorite high output pickup period. It's my #1 pup, in my #1 guitar.

It is a mid/treble heavy pickup, with enough bass, and very tight bass. It allows you to run the bass up on the amp, and the distortion, and not get muddy. It has more chucnk than thud, if that makes sense. Amazing crunch. It will cut through and scream/shriek/wail - whatever you want to call that bend up from the 22nd fret.

It cleans up ok. The cleans are obviously ceramic cleans, but it isn't total dirt all the time no matter what. Then again, cleans are not what it is all about. I dig the cleans a lot more than i thought I would as ceramics go.

And of course, hot hot hot. Comes across as a very response pickup with not just flying out immediately to the touch. Harmonics all over the place leap off the neck.

It's a go to guitar for Judas Priest, whereas my Super Distortion works more for Iron Maiden.
