Anybody know much about De Armond guitars

Craig's list in my area has a De Armond S-65 (SG type) guitar in good shape for $50. I googled it and didn't come up with much. I would like to add an SG to my collection and put my old Les Paul pickups in it. But I don't want to buy junk.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Anybody know much about De Armond guitars

The "old" DeArmond company made pickups, mounting to archtop guitars that were quite popular among jazz players.

Harry DeArmond
was the Seymour Duncan of his day. More info on his products: Musicpickups website

The "new" DeArmond company is a Fender low-end humbucker guitar brand, mostly MIK.
I don't know if they're still selling under that mark, because the dearmond.com web link rolls straight to Guild guitars (another old jazz box company that's currently a Fender brand).

If the wood's good, and the setup and finish are OK, a set of pups would make it a decent daily beater for not a lot of cheddar.

$50, I would buy it sight unseen almost. They're solid MIK guitars.

Screw-on neck construction, dual HB, simple control harness. Ripe for customisation in the pickup, pot and machine head departments. Enjoy.
