Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

Does anyone count the founder of Naylor amps, Reverend Guitars, and Railhammer pickups a celebrity? He's around enough of them in the music biz...

I bought a leather guitar strap from him and asked him to sign it...

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

What I'm wondering is how many artists play guitars that I've owned...

Ha ha ha just messin with ya.

Love the look of the fillertron in the neck!

I have an acoustic that was once owned by Hank Snow... I don't remember the exact details but my dad bought it, when he was young, at a yard sale or something for like $10. He said, "I don't really know anything about the guy. I just thought I looked cool, and had a decent sound to it."

Does this count? A friend of mine purchased this from Neal Schon's people when they were trying sell off the old Jackson made "Schon" guitars.

He called the number from an ad in an old guitar magazine back in the late eighties / early nineties and asked if any of Neal's guitars were available and they sent this.

I picked it up from him when he was thinning herd some a while back.

It's an interesting guitar. It plays great and sounds great. Aria Pro II LP shape with a nice Kahler trem. The electronics are where it gets interesting. Half of the back has been carved out for a Roland midi processor with what looks like a printer block for the output. The pickups are routed through an adjustable set of caps or something that are attached to a mini toggle for each pickup. I have it set where the tone thins out and get a little more Strat-like. Then, there is a mini toggle to kill the output and then several knobs that I think are associated with the midi, because they don't do anything through the standard output. The pickups look like DiMarzio Super Distortions or Dual Sounds, but I haven't had them out to see for sure. They sound about right for them and look right.

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

Seymour gave me a slide that Jeff Beck used at the ARMS Charity Concerts in '83.

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

I may in fact be in possession of a 15" Gauss Cetek that may have at one time been in the possession of a certain Robert Halford. Though such information is apocryphal at this time.

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

Nope. Though Mick Taylor has signed (and very briefly played) my '68 SG.

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

Back in the mid-'70s, I had a chance one time to buy one of Heart guitarist Roger Fisher's guitars. Just couldn't swing the cash at the time. No real premium to me for it being Fisher's; I just thought it was a great playing and sounding guitar.

That was about the same time I had a chance to buy somebody's Dumble Overdrive Special combo...I think it was $2,000, which at the time was a ridiculous fortune for an amp.

But...doesn't seem quite so steep, now that those amps are fetching $100K+.

As Homer would say, "DOH!!!!"

My TSL100 was apparently owned by Snow Patrol.

The guy was very excited when he told me. I have to say, I really didn't care. I had to google them when I got home, was not too impressed.

Sounds like a SNL punchline... "Never heard of them, NEXT!"

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

One of my guitars was owned by a 'local' celebrity...in the punk scene. Still coo lto me as I look up to the lad.

Old bandmate of mine has a DSL that was owned/ signed by Stryper.

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

I don't. But many years ago I put in a few bids for a couple of Dave Mustaine's Jackson King V's when he was auctioning off a bunch of his stuff. I think it was around the time he left Jackson guitars. I didn't win obviously.

Wow, I knew Rob took it in the pooper, but 15"??

While not a "famous name", I did buy a Bossa OB-5 from a guy on Ebay a few years ago who claimed he used it with The Doors (or at least the surviving members) - which meant nothing to me - I'd been after this bass for over 10 years, having played one briefly in 2001, and the price was reasonable at $1000. It came in an Anvil case with a UPS label stuck to the front and plain-old shipping tape wrapped around the case, over the latches

I also do have signature model Jacksons (Mark Morton MM-1 and 1992 Phil Collen Archtop Pro), and have previously owned a couple of Rhoadses, a Robbin Crosby tribute Big Red signed by The Man himself shortly before his death, and a Jackson Mustaine Pro (as well as a very rare Y2KV import).

However, I see nothing special in possessing something that a famous person owned themselves. It doesn't give you any sort of connection to that person in the sense that it would make you a better player or artist, or smarter, or more physically attractive, or slimmer, or more educated, or more distinguished, or any other perceived social elevation.
Obviously if you did own something that was worth more than you paid for it, that's something tangible, but it doesn't change or improve who you are.

Re: Anybody own any celebrity owned gear?

Never bought any artist gear, but sold a couple, met both these guys at the same local Starbucks to do the deals.

Sold a 61RI to Bruce Kulick (KISS)
Sold an '81 LPC to James Stevenson (Generation X, Chelsea, Gene Loves Jezebel, The Alarm, Kim Wilde)

To the contrary, you learn how they had their gear set up, and you get to hear it first hand with your ears. That is immensely valuable.
