Anybody scoop thier mids?

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

Mids? Mids? Looking at my amp, I only see a knob marked "Tone". What are these mids of which you speak?

Seriously - I use a GE-7 as a booster, and it's set in an inverted "U", with a BIG hump in the mids.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

Scoops are lame!:fing25:

On my Tremoverb, bass is at 9 o'clock, mids DIMED, presence at around 3 o'clock, treble between 9 o'clock and noon. Plus I'm using very mid heavy pickups and still think i could go for more mids.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

mehhh you guys get so over sensitive when it comes to mids! I hate that over middy piercing Marshall tone when you dime the mids, and I also hate that dull scooped tone. What happened to BALANCED TONE?
I don't think a lot of guy here scoop em but I think a lot of high gain guys keep em back a little like me. There's a reason for that and that is tightness and clarity.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

Somewhere between 4 and 8 usually works for me.. obviously depending a lot on the amp+guitar in question.

No mids at all = bad tone for most scenarios.. sometimes you might want a messed up tone to achieve a certain effect.

However, too much mids can make a guitar sound boxy.

At the end of the day.. Use your ears!

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

Depends what tone you are looking for. Something thick that fills your ears, not bright you might want to boost your mids. If you want a little more clarity roll them down a little. Ya gotta fiddle depending on what your playing, if i'm playing red hot chili peppers I'm not going to use the same EQ i use for sabbath.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

funny thing....

I used to scoop my mids all the time.

THen I started using SD pickups.

Now my guitars actually have a little bit of ... uh ...tone...so I don't need to kill the nasty sound that got in the way of the music before.

I remember when I put a DD into the bridge of my V. Sounded so good I could not believe it. I could give a little push to the mids without it sounding annoying..

I still scoop from time to time when I do faster riffs that focus on the attack of the guitar rather than the tone or sustain.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

I am starting to believe the scooped mids thing is just a myth. No one thus far seems to scoop their mids. Seymour Duncan taught us well.

My sound goes: Treble between 11:00 and 12:00 (warms things), Bass 11:00 (to brace guitar and pickups' own low-end), and Mids... I let my pickup decide.

This eq'ing allows everything to breathe while remaining firm.

Maybe falloutboyroxxx scoops his mids...

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

I usually have my mids at 2 o'clock. Anything higher is a little too congested. With my telecaster, I'll dime the mids however.
