Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

^^^These guys^^^

I'm looking for a cheap Tele that I can mod into a decent Tele for my girlfriends dad so I can get my Fender FSR Telcaster back from him! For the price I'm not expecting something that's going to play like a $2,500 guitar out of the box. I'm just looking for general impressions on playability, action, neck, EXE? I think the relic LTD Strat copies are right on par with the Tele's so if you have played or owned one of those instead please let me know what you thought...

Re: Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

I have not played those but I played their Relic Strat copies and was highly impressed. The only beef I had with mine was the super flat radius (like 16") but it was well built and sounded awesome (I upgraded the pickups and electronics.)

If the Strats are any indicators of the Teles then I'd say go for it and mod it up–you may just have the gf's dad keep the Fender ;)

EDIT:...why did I get rid of that guitar? :'(

Re: Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

^same here, I never tried the teles but owned the strat and LP types for some time.
serious bang for the buck!

Re: Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

Teles are nice IMHO; local MGR had several of them in stock for a while and they all sold eventually in the $369-399 range over time. Quality varied from guitar to guitar...sticky finishes, though the necks were satin I believe, warped pickguards but most of them were somewhat reliced from the factory. Not as nice as the Floyded 203 Model Maple Neck Strats they did.

Re: Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

Nice, Pro Audio is dumping overstocked black models for like $220? I figure I'll toss in some new pickups and guts, set up the neck & then perhaps my girlfriend's dad will give me back my Fender, LOL! Out of all my guitars that's the only one he ever wants to borrow, it's also the only true Tele I've got, the rest have humbuckers or stacks in the bridge? He's into Chicken Pickin stuff so I can see why he likes the open coil Q.P. in the bridge & Phat Cat neck but I do miss it sometimes? It's hard for me to say no to him because I've got over a dozen other guitars sitting around & I can only play one at a time? I'm also sleeping with his daughter and he's a little scary, so there's that..... Anyway if I could get it to play halfway decently he'll be I'm sure he's going to be happy with it & it should make for a good backup should I ever need one?

My old job used to have one as a demo guitar. I really liked it! It was really solid - stayed in tune well, medium jumbo frets played great, very stable, nice action. About as thick of a neck as a Fender, maybe a little bit thinner and narrower.

Drop some good pickups, quality electronics and locking tuners on it and you've got a killer working-mans axe slightly geared towards hard rock styles.

Dude. WHERE?!?!

I think I might buy one for that, haha.

My LTD TE-212, seriously modded. My tech told me it sounded way better than most American Teles he's come across. For € 300, it's a steal, but upgrades are a must (stock hardware and electronics are not that great).

Re: Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

Yeah, if you are doing the do with his daughter, ya def wanna stay on his good side... And hers.. haha When I was tele shopping I was teetering tween a Squier Vintage Modified and a low line LTD. (cant recall the model) The LTD was a great player, a TON of bang for the buck and I really loved the huge frets.. I personally went with the Squier cuz I liked the pickup config and thought it would be alittle more traditional, but the LTD would have been great too

Re: Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

Well fellas, there selling for $219 through Pro Audio Zone! You have to go with the black models but for that price it leaves a lot of wiggle room for new electronics and pickups. Go ahead and GAS away!!!!

I own one. Great piece for the money, even the default pickups were decent but I have Duncans in there now.

Nice! My pickups & the rest of my bits should all be here by Tuesday. I almost went with a lil 59 in the bridge too but just about every other guitar I own has a humbucker or Stacked single in the bridge and that raw, uncovered, single coil sitting in the metal bridge is a lot of what gives the Telecaster it's character? I decided to go with a STL-2 in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck instead, should be a pretty great combination!!!

Seymournized!!! STL-2 Bridge/SH-PGN Neck, I wanted a slime green SH-PGN (because it would have looked completely badass in a blacked out Telecaster) but I already had the Zebra so it's there for now, maybe after X-mas....

So it turned out great! Sounds amazing and after a 15min setup it's playing just as good as my Fenders, perhaps better? You would think this would make me happy but honestly I'm a little pi$$ed! My main Fender Tele cost me $850 @ the store plus I still ended up gutting it & replaced the puppies. This thing was $200 shipped & I got crazy good deals on the pickups so all in I'm still under $300 total!!!

The neck is just butter under your fingertips & the playability is amazing. I spent less than 5 minutes polishing the fretboard, basically got the frets to where they'd be if it had 50 or so hours of playing time on them, rough edges rounded off and EXE? I'm definitely having a hard time putting it down now!!! If it still needs anything it's going to be a new nut but the plastic one they got in it is actually cut fairly well & it's not like the guitar has a Trem of any sort so unless it becomes a problem I'm probably going to be keeping it as is from here on out... Maybe the Slime Green SH-Pearly Gates neck?

Re: Anybody Tried The LTD Tele Copies?

I'd love to put a Sentient and a Hot Rails in one of those.
