Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

has anyone bought a EVH Wolfgang? only one i tried out was the imported version and it was baddly set up and the strings buzzed on the frets... was left less then impressed so i walked out before trying a better example... The neck shape seemed quite small to me... and the frets seemed smaller then the Peavey Wolf i own

the USA ones are nice looking but i don't think i'll be able to buy one anytime soon... oddly i love the model with the hardtail with the lock nut for some reason... and the set neck one i like as well

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

I played one of the USA ones at the Music Zoo in NY when they first came out.

First thing I noticed was how unbelievably heavy it was for the type of guitar, almost unchambered Les Paul heavy. I dug the neck and thought it was faster for classic rock than shredding. That thing was retardedly expensive though. You could get a nice custom Fender or Gibson for that much.

Can't say anything about the imports.

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

For the money I plan on just updating my EBMM Axis with new Wolfgang pickups. I still don't like the Wolfgang body design. IMO the EBMM were much better guitars than the Peaveys, aside from the archtop I'll just upgrade my Axis to Wolfgang specs. When it comes time for a refret then I'll do stainless.

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

i'm sitting here playing my Peavey Wolfgang mutt into my TSL-100 head and a cab, thinking this is a killer freakin axe, and would not mind owning more like this... My Ernie Ball Luke was a step in the right direction even if i normally hate EMG guitars i like the LUKE... i could see an Axis in my future too...

the EVH USA ones are quite pricey... don't think i'll really ever buy one unless i came into money somehow... the imported ones are in my price range, but an Axis can be had for a bit more then the imported EVH's

i was curious if anyone bothered to spend the cash on the EVH's

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

I've owned 2 USA Wolfgang (Peavey) stds and both were fantastic guitars. I regret selling my purple Pre Pat one and saw it for sale again here just a few weeks ago for £1199.... that's double what I sold it for about 18 months ago. My only real grumble was that the neck seemed very narrow at the nut even for my small hands!

ya i own a few axes with the narrow 1 5/8's nut width... the R2 floyd nut width... i'm a big guy with big hands and it does take me a bit to adjust to it when i have not picked up one of these axes out of my collection in a while...

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

To be fair though although the nut felt a little cramped, the neck itself was nice and chunky... and damned slick to play. Another thing, that guitar NEVER went out of tune... why the hell did I sell it? Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

i'm a hobbiest guitar maker and i'd love to take a stab at making a neck to Wolfgang/Axis like neck specs and shape... Graphite rods, spoke wheel truss rod, the back shape... may be a cool project... i have a strat neck blank all ready to be to be shaped... it has an ebony board glued on... i'll practice on that one with the back shape first i guess... i'll make some profile neck templates for the back shape...

my Peavey Wolfgang is a parts mutt... neck i got from a former Peavey employee, the body i got from a forum bro.... i had the FRO, a Dimarzio humbucker laying around from a failed project.... and it's rocking... still needs a neck humbucker but i like it as is for now...

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

My only saving grace is that I have my Wayne T type that has probably the best neck I've ever played. It is VERY similar to the Peavey and I think it must have been based on that profile but wider at the nut.

very cool... i was going to try and get a Wayne at one point but ended up buying a Fender Custom Shop instead... i think i would of used the Wayne more then a vintage style strat

ya... i went to the store with a plan to buy an American Standard Strat i liked and ended up with the Custom Shop... in some ways i think the American Standard would of been more my thing as i like modern guitars more... but it is great...

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

I don't think I have even seen one around here let alone played or purchased

the only store near me that carries the EVH line had a few in but they are pretty much gone... i may go down there tomorrow and look around... last i saw they had no EVH amps in and had a bunch of Peavey 6505's in...

hope they get a 50watt 5150III soon

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

there are some clips on youtube of that that guy that is the spokes person for "all things EVH" cant remember his name. Anyways, he did a thing with guitar world and demo'd all the different current EVH wolfgangs through the new 5150III 50watt and
I think they sound AWESOME!!!! not sure if thats thanks to the guitars or the amp though lol

Re: Anyone buy a EVH Wolfgang?

I'd like to see someone do a straight heads up between the EBMM Axis, the Peavey Wolfgang and the new EVH. I always liked the EBMM best back when Ed was still an endorsee. I don't like how they moved the switch back near the knob. Minor complain, but I feel it throws the instrument out of balance visually. They had some fantastic colors back when as well.

I too hate it when guitar companies try to cut cost by dumping controls together.

It's the reason I'll never own a Carvin or PRS doublecut. they either stick that toggle all the way back away from your picking hand or they throw it somewhere covered up by the vol/tone knobs.

In my experience, if I have to think about where a control is, it shouldn't be there.

I think there are only 3 places it's appropriate to throw a toggle switch.
1) Top of the guitar near the fretboard, i.e. LP standard
2) In front and clear of the volume controls near the picking hand, i.e. Strat
3) On the bottom horn, i.e. reissue Explorer
