Anyone compared APS1 or 2 to Antiquity Texas Hots?

Jeremy or others who have tried both:

I think the two models seem kind of similar. Chunky mids. A little thicker than an alnico 5 Ant II or SSL-1.

I had the Texas Hots in the same guitar and the APS2's seem a little thicker and hotter, but also seem to have more treble and chime and seem to push my amp harder than the Texas Hots...am I remembering right?

Thanks, Lew

Lew,
my Ant strat and APS strat are more or less equal in other respects - wood, weight, etc.

I tend to play the APS more, although it may not be just the difference in pickups. I agree the APS seem fatter, and have more apparent output, even though they're really about the same, neck & mid

however, I think the Ants actually actually have more chime and complexity, a little more typical quack in the notch positions - their tone seems more "etched" to me

while the Ants, true to their name, get more of the "hot vintage" vibe, the APS are more like a hot rod vintage tone to me.

I concur with Curly, and am using both the Texas Hot Ants in one Strat and an APS in the other....both with Alder bodies. The Ants have a bit more edge to 'em, as the SSL-1 is similar. The APS is just a tad warmer but still with great definition.
Excellent pickups, all of them.

I'm going to have to reinstall the Texas Hots...I have a Strat I'm building that's just about done. Just need to drill the holes for the tremolo claw and assemble it.

So you guys think the Tex Hots are chimier/brighter than the APS2?

Thanks! Lew

Lew,

offhand, I said yes, but I'll go back and A/B my two strats.

I'll let you know by tomorrow
