Anyone else using 15" speakers with guitar ?

Re: Anyone else using 15" speakers with guitar ?

I like the look of it, and it's got the full potential for having great tone, minus the stupid Bright/Dark switch.

I love the look of the amp, I get compliments on it all the time. Let me know how you like the mod. On one hand I am totally happy with the tone of my Excelsior but, if I can make it sound better why not. I was playing the SG through it yesterday and it was a bit on the harsh side with the bridge. When I popped the SG into middle position and futzed with the knobs a bit it was tone nirvana.

Good god.... 6 15" speakers ? Does the cab come with diapers ?

:D . . . no idea.

In fact, i do not know if they even still make that monster.

How the hell does one transport that thing anyways ?
BUT, i still would love to have or atleast hear it !!!

Re: Anyone else using 15" speakers with guitar ?

Ever since I read reviews, and watched vid's, of the Peavey Delta Blues 115, I've wanted a 1x15 cab. I've had plans to build one for my Bogner Alchemist for awhile, (using an Eminence 15" Big Ben). This thread is fueling my GAS to complete the project.

The 1x15 Twwed Bassman Pro is a great amp. I had one for awhile. It had a full round tone with the P15N, but it couldnt tocuh a 4x10 Bassman.
IMO a Peavey PA cabinet must sound absolutely horrendous, but hey, I'm not 21.
OTOH< Townshend with the Who used a couple of 2x15 cabinets, albeit with original JBLd140's and horns , probably sligtly better sounding than a 50 dollar Peavey PA speaker.
I like 15's in old combos, and there are some damn good 15's . Vintage, The old EV15 SRO's are really magnificent for fat, full, vintage tone, yet have a slammin very natural midrange when pushed.
Probably Emiennce 15's are good for some of the newer Stoner/Doom stuff. I can see pushing a 1x15 cabinet in that scenario.

Dude what is your issue ? I see your posts all the time and they are usually negative jackhole comments.

Anyways the Peavey sounds pretty damn good and I have played through many speakers over the years but hey what do I know I'm only 21........ :smack:

Nice full round highs, good midrange and a lot of tight low end being ported and what not. Bit of a dark speaker but it sounds good with my Ampegs and Fender head. Sounds absolutely monstrous with a Russian Big Muff and Whammy V octave on....I really couldn't care less what Townshend used, I was never a fan of his guitar tones anyways.

I got a randall cab awhile back for cheap, it has 2 x 12's at the top and 1 15" at the bottom and its ported. weighs slightly less than my Genz Benz G flex 4x12 too. The Randall sounds almost as good. when I run them both together, watch out.

Jeez sounds killer... That is pretty much my setup too, 2x12+1x15 ported. Its beastly!

I love the low end from the ported 15" cabs... I can see why some guitarists mainly in 2 piece bands have bass cabs along with their guitar cabs and amps. They have so much low end thump!
