Anyone else Wax their Axe

I've used carnuba wax on a guitar body before to try to shine it up. It does make the body shinier, but didn't last long. No issues with clouding . . . just put it on like you're waxing a car - a little bit goes a long way.

I'd never use the stuff on a neck though. Shiny necks are stickier. Matte always seems smoother and less sticky to my hot, sweaty hands.
 
I would think that maybe one of the better waxes might be useful when buffing out surface marks. But for regular body shinning, neck polishing and fingerboard cleaning/treating/hydrating, pure baby oil is all yall need. Cheap, effective, no risk and easy get a hold of.
 
Yeah, I wouldn't want to use baby oil at all. Most of my guitar maintenance is in trying to get oil and grease OFF the guitar . . . not adding any more. :P
 
I just come back to there has never been anything that polish has not cleaned up. I have wax, but it may be stale (?) as I have never needed to use it.
 
Actually baby oil isn't slimy at all after applied, worked in and wiped off. In fact a recent study proved that two of the most popular guitar cleaner/polish/treatments were straight up baby oil, rebottled and sold at a massive mark up.
 
Hmm. How many babies do they have to squish to get a bottle of baby oil? There may be ethical concerns to consider.
 
I have guitars painted with car paint and I still do not use car wax on my guitars car wax/polish has some serious grit in it. Polishing a guitar is the process of removing some of the finish. If you are looking for a reliced or pawnshop look for your guitar, car wax will get you there quicker than expected. I polish my guitars with a soft cloth and only use guitar polish if there is something on the guitar I can not remove with a cloth alone.

Carnauba works fine for me.

Just use Virtuoso two step cleaner/polish. It gets them clean and shiny. No build up, no issues.
