Anyone ever measure the individual PG coils?

I know they're stagger wound, so I wonder how much of a difference there is between the two coils. Which coil has more winds: slug or polepiece? About what resistance did they measure up to?

Do you mean scatter wound? I don't believe that has anything to do with whether the coils are mismatched or not. Anyway, I'd bet that the coil closest to the bridge would be wound the hottest.

Re: Anyone ever measure the individual PG coils?

The differance is not huge but one coil is wound slightly hotter than the other. Not alot. I forget what the DC resistance was when I measured it.

Refarding Duncan's vintage paf pickups, the 59 and Seth have matched coils and the Antiquity and Pearly Gates have unmatched coils.

So would you guys say that the PG is similar to an Antiqutiy only with a new magnet and not the aged magnet of the Antiquity?

i don't think the antiquities and PGs sound even close to each other. even though they are both alnico 2 and mismatched coils. i think the pearly gates have something going on and the antiquities have something else. are the PGs wax potted?

Lew,

After a long talk with MJ, I learned that the PG and the Ant's are wound differently. The PG's are wound to have that upper mid spike. It's the wind, the weaker magnet, the nickle cover and the lack of wax potting that change the tone in those pups.
