Anyone ever modify/mag swap some GFS pickups?

I may just do a mag swap on a Crunchy PAT I have instead of buying a Duncan; it's a good pickup and I'd like to see what an Alnico 8 does for it. Are there any pitfalls to GFS pickups that would make a mag swap more difficult or ill advised? Any experiences with modifying GFS pickups in general?

I tried several different grades of Alnico in a Crunchy PAT and regular PAT neck. It’s been awhile, but they reacted similarly to any other pickup.

Excellent, thanks for the experience!

I've got JBs with Alnico 8's in two of my main guitars and I love them, and I'm souping up another guitar to be a cheaper number three. It's already got the Crunchy PAT in it and I've got an Alnico 8 in my parts drawer, so I thought I'd give it a whirl and see what I come up with. The JB's sound bassier and more out of control (for lack of a better term) with the Alnico 8's in them, and next to them the stock Crunchy PAT doesn't have much bass but it's super tight, not a bad sound, but very different and you'd certainly run different amp settings with it than with the JB-8's. I'm really curious to see how much more "wild" the Crunchy PAT will sound with the A8 in there.
