Anyone ever replace the poles or slugs on GFS or Duncan pups?

There's been a lot of cool info about switching out mags, but nothing i've found about pole pieces.

I will be experimenting with putting 1022 screws from Add-FX (they are well regarded for quality control.) in my Retrotron Liverpool. There are 12 screws so i figure if the stock screws are low quality, and install 12 "high quality" there should be a noticeable difference...trouble is, i dont know what they are built with in the first place. From their description 1022 is what i'd like... if GFS use already 1022 then hopefully the Addiction-FX are just nicer sounding.

Am just wondering if anyone's been down this road before.

I also have a Seymour '59 that will be re-fitted. Does anyone know what screw and slug types it, or GFS come stock with? I assume its 1018... don't know why, just seems the most common/current i read about.

Also does anyone think the Mojotone "Vintage Spec" pole pieces are the same source as Addiction-FX?
The Mojotone "Black Oxide" look identical to the A-FX un-plated...

any info or experiences are greatly appreciated!

I've done this with several asian p'ups (screws, slugs and keepers plus the magnet, of course) with good to excellent results.

I use the 1018 nickel-plated screws from Afx and the 1022 GOLDEN vintage from Mojo.

Duncan p'ups don't need it, really. That's what makes mag swaps such a valuable source for tayloring your p'ups to the rest of your rig.

HTH,

It may be worth documenting the sound before and after with some recording of the same pieces of music using the same amp settings.

I would like to warn you against getting your hopes too high for a huge change in end result though.

My real advice though is to contact GFS!

Exchanging any parts for better quality ones will indeed improve the pickup sound, but the change won't always be easily noticeable.

If what you want is an overall significant change replacing the poles might not be the way.

I put hex poles on the bottom 3 strings in my JB++

Tightened up the bottom end more and gave it a little sharper attack (LPC Drop C)

HTH,
thanks... then the A-FX and Mojo don't seem the same source to you seems. have you had both their 1022's?
& BTW Might you know if their mini pole-pieces are Asian threaded?
I wrote GFS once about tech info & they never replied... understandable as they get loads of emails i hear. maybe some one was luckier?
