Anyone ever tried AHB-3 EMTY neck in the bridge?

I remembered Frank Falbo said that it would be a killer pickup, but is anyone here ever tried it in the bridge?
What are your thoughts? :thanks:

Re: Anyone ever tried AHB-3 EMTY neck in the bridge?

Not me. I actually prefer the ceramic bridge EMTY pickup in all positions.
I have three of these in my Les Paul. I would imagine it would be like when people install an EMG-85 in the bridge position, darker, warmer, etc.

Darth, how do you like your EMTYs?
Do they have decent cleans?
Can they do lower gain bluesy rock n' roll stuff as well?
I just wondered that EMTY neck in bridge will be tighter than BO neck in bridge,as I know that EMTY is the tightest active Seymour Duncan ever made.:scratchch

Re: Anyone ever tried AHB-3 EMTY neck in the bridge?

I love the EMTY. Yes, the emty neck will be tighter than the regular
BO neck in the bridge BUT the emty bridge is the tightest BO of all. I
like the EMTY bridge the most for any position. It's also the brightest.

Yes, it'll do medium gain tones beautifully and the cleans are really
good too. Better than the BO.

Yeah sorry Marvelous Seven, I totally forgot. I'll try to make some this weekend!

I don't think it's too bright. It's definitely edgy, but I don't
perceive it as too bright. The EMTY's high end is part of the
reason it's so aggresive and clear at the same time.
Being an owner of the standard Blackouts as well, I can say
the EMTY has the best blend of power and EQ voicing of the
Blackouts line.

Thanks for your enthusiastic inquiries!
My understanding of the striping is as follows: The first of the Mark lll amps had either a black dot by the power cord or no marking at all. These Mark lll amps had an issue when switching to the crunch (ch.2) channel in that the volume dropped out by a huge amount.

The second Mark lll stripe color was Purple (Which is what my Mark lll Colesium 300 head is).
Amps with this stripe color had the volume drop issue fixed and the lead channel was made less "Harsh" and closer to what the Mark llC+ was.

Third was the Red Stripe. This one had all the improvements of the Purple stripe units but had the lead channel tweaked to sound even closer to the llC+ as well as some FX loop improvements but I don't remember exactly what.

Fourth was the Blue Stripe. This one had the improvements of the Red Stripe but now the power section was somehow more like the llC+ as well and supposedly had a slightly more aggressive lead channel than the original llC+.

Last was the Green Stripe. It was just like the Blue Stripe but somehow even more refined.

That's all I know. The truth is that no one can say one stripe color is better than the other. I've heard a red and green stripe mark lll head and I feel my Purple Stripe was just as good if not better. Especially since my head is not Simul-Class, it naturally has a much punchier dynamic tone that the Simul's had which seemed to have a softer sounding power section. I replaced the six 6L6 power tubes with KT88's which made my head even more loud and more aggressive. To say my Mark lll Colesium is loud is like saying a 50 year old retired New York prostitute is loose!

I'm getting about 180 watts out of my Colesium with these KT88 power tubes and what a sound it is! The EMTY loaded guitars through this amp is the most glorious tone I've ever heard. This is the tone I've heard only in my mind and it's finally coming out of my speaker cabs.

Nice. Can any other Mark III's take KT88 (or even KT77) tubes, or just the Coliseum?

Re: Anyone ever tried AHB-3 EMTY neck in the bridge?

Any Mark lll can take them. I use JJ Electronic and only buy them from Eurotubes in Oregon
because the bias on all Mesa amps is non-adjustable. I need to make sure I get a set that's not too hot and that biases up properly otherwise I can fry the transformer and in my case, I'd be screwed because the Colesium transformers aren't available anymore.
