anyone ever use this power amp for guitar (monoprice)

Considering this (monoprice power amp) for use with my rack preamps. Not as my "main rig" but for occasional use with a drummer where I just need cheap loud power. I've seen some diss the amount of power available, but if I bridge the two sides it's 360 watts into 8 ohms which is way more than I'd ever need for a 2 x 12" cab.

The fan appears to be on the loud side based on some reviews, but I'll be playing so loud to keep up with the drums I don't see that as a problem.

here is is:

plus side is, this unit has both 1/4" ins and outs which is pretty unusual for a power amp not specifically designed for guitar.

The is it's a full range audio amp, no doubt a creative and cost effective solution -but will produce a lot of sound you don't want to hear, and it will probably make you hear some parts of your playing and technique you are not fond of. -maybe throw a $30 graphic eq on in and kill everything below 100hz and above 8k?

If it were me, and I had only 100 to spend, I'd go by an old used rackmount Peavey Ampeg or Yorkville solid state 200W bass amp with Graphic EQ at a guitar shop or pawn store -they are good at reproducing guitar ranges faithfully and have graphic eqs to nuance a regular guitar in and cut the bass at 100hz.

The MosValve MV-962 is a great power amp for guitar, should be able to find those pretty reasonable now days.

Not sure if you have ever played with a power amp. Depending on the preamp it is a really different feel. With my analog Chandler Tube Driver and Mesa Studio Preamp, it responded like any tube amp. With a digital preamp, there is a weird for lack of a better word sterile feel. It sounded great but it took a while to get used to what I think was the absolute lack of noise. Once I got used to it it was very cool.

Pretty sure it'll be fine. I think the preamp cuts out unwanted frequencies & the power amp does'nt hugely change what the pre's out-putting ...at least that's what I'm getting with my DIY SS amp which is using a full range power amp (20Hz-20Khz). I've tried it with quite a few different power amps including my AMT Stonehead's power section (power amp input) and the difference between them is practically zilch ..it's more about the headroom than anything else. The Chinese $15 power amp (with fan) I bought seems to have the most headroom (probably because it's the highest rated wattage) ..which results in marginally thicker tone, and maybe a little more bottom end (maybe a bit too much), Dynamics are all about the same
to my ears but my guess is the preamp's doing all the tone-shaping so the difference's between the final power amp output's are pretty negligible. The AMT's power section is class A/B & it (the preamp signal) sounds almost identical through that as it does through the class D power amp I got from the NxGen pedal guy in Thailand (which actually sounds a bit nicer..)
