Anyone found their guitar screams in one tuning(s)

I have found with my SG, maybe because of its natural middy sound and ebony fretboard, that it screams in tunings D-standard and lower, the lowest being C standard. Yet my Orville LP screams in E flat and once it goes past D it gets too muddy but that also might be because of the pickup in it.

Found this out a while ago...

My SG-X with .013-.062's tuned to C standard sounds about as fat as a Les Paul with .010's tuned to E standard.

The SG only has one pickup, a P-Rails in the bridge, and the Paul has antiquities.

If you obey forum pickup tone theory these guitars, despite both being Gibsons, shouldn't really sound alike...but besides my SG having some extra low notes and a P90 and single-coil sound...they're hard to tell apart.

Something I didn't notice until I had my Paul for a while, tho, is that a good Les Paul sounds FATTER than an SG but at the same time sounds BRIGHTER! Chalk it up to the maple cap or my Custom's ebony fretboard but it's easy for my SG to cop that fat riff tone...but that Pagey cranked twang that i can easily pull from my Paul eludes me on the SG...unless i click it over to P90 mode and maybe turn on my clean boost...i.e. two extra switches / steps to take whereas with the Paul I can just dig in a little harder.

Different tools for different jobs...SG's work if you're using more gain, more dirt, and want less twang. They're also an acceptable substitute if you just want your back to stop hurting.

Also hard to be conclusive without comparing my Custom to an SG with an ebony fretboard and a maple cap with the same pups...lots of variables at play here BUT...i think your theory is sound :smokin:

All my guitars scream when I play them, no matter what the tuning.

Empty pockets, is that your norlin Les paul you're talking about?
I thought they had 3 piece maple necks too?

No, but I have found that my amp screams a bit differently with each guitar though..

Re: Anyone found their guitar screams in one tuning(s)

Eh I just keep my guitars in B standard to be honest, although I play 7 strings so it's just E standard with a low B string.
Never really felt the need to use other tunings apart from occasionally using drop D
