Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

Here is a custom made billy gibbons tele, with a seymour duncan custom shop pearly gates.

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

A Tele bridge pickup won't cut it for chugga chugga metal.

Sure you can! It's a cool sound, just won't sound like a humbucker doing it.

My favorite position on an Esquire is wide open with the tone circuit out, so there.

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

I don't want pots and wires to mess up my sound,if you turn them down it won't sound good, all the mids go away and there's never any harmonics.I want to here the guitar, not $10 worth of parts.

You best be trollin'. Because if not, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

The thing is, the bridge pickup IS the Tele. If you don't like that, then you don't like Telecasters. ......... I tried a lil'59 in one of them and I think I'm going to take it out and sell it. It sounds ok, but it sounds like an LP and not a Tele anymore.

This. The bridge pickup and bridge combination are the largest part of what a Tele actually is. I also had a Lil 59 in mine for a while, but lost a lot of the classic Tele sound.

Seems to me like you have other reasons to want a Tele, reasons other than the sound, and that a Tele is not really the guitar for you.

OK now that's just stupid. You're either really new to the guitar or you're a troll. Either way, I'm washing my hands of this idiocy as of this point.

Agreed.

Ok guys, this thread is done. Do not pass Go. Do not feed the Trolls.

That's like saying, "I don't want those rubber tires on my Ferrari because I don't want anything to get between me and the road. I don't want things to f*** up my handling."

Fail.

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

Tele bridge and P90 bridge = best pickups ever IMO.

I would not want to give up the attack of that pickup. You can do a lot to change it's tone without sacrificing the attack of the note that you get. Try your tone knob and/or amp settings. If your tone knob doesn't do what you like, you can change what it does with pot and cap changes.

A humbucker in that position would also sound good, however. I just wouldn't give up a stock Tele bridge sound to get it. It's too smooth a sound IMO.

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

If I turn down the tone pot then I lose mids and have f**ked up tone, just like with tires the air pressure can f**k up handling so I like it a certain way.

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

Then change your tone pot and/or try different caps until you get a tone control that you find useful. It's way better spending $20 on some electronics, and then fine tuning exactly to your desires than it is to spend however much on a pickup, which still might require you to alter your pots and caps. Your amp has tone controls too. I'm just trying to provide easy and cheap ways for you to attack the problem. Those pickups are quite versatile, and shouldn't have to be swapped out just because you don't like their tone out of the box. IMO, you should at least try to do it cheaply first, tweaking what you have to suit, rather than doing a full-on replacement.

I find ways to fatten things up not take out mids and highs with the tone pot, that's why I like hot rail's for tele.I can have the tone up and have all the mids.Look at the jb page,it says some player's use 250k pot's to smooth out the highs, not turn tone pot down when you put this pickup in your guitar if you don't like highs, because that would take out mids.

It's tone chasing,in other words I don't want things to f**k up my tone.

There is something to be said for getting the right tele pickup into the right guitar. If you still want it to sound tele-like, but bigger, ballsier, then there's nothing wrong with that. You can get there with just the pickup and a single volume knob. Just a matter of getting the right value for the volume pot and the right pickup.

I don't see anything wrong with wanting as little in the signal path as possible. It's just that on a tele, with the right pots and knowing how to use them, you make the guitar that much more versatile. I'm not talking push/pull pots and phase switches, etc. etc. Just some good quality volume & tone pots, a quality tone cap, and a decent 3-way tele switch.

I really dig a hotter tele pickup that doesn't sound like a full-on humbucker, but still competes volume wise with one. A Dimarzio Pre B-1 and a single 250K volume pot would work well for you. Maybe a Duncan Quarter Pounder bridge pickup? The Boss used to use Quarter Pounders for a long time in his #1 tele (well, Esquire).

Good luck in the tone search!

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

I'm with Jeremy...you just don't like Tele's...which is fine.

If we all played the same guitars music would be really boring!

I currently own 3 Tele's (one Tele, one Broadcaster and one Esquire) and can live on the bridge pickup (with the Esquire I have to)...but it's not for everyone.

If you want fat that can be done if you want overwound, bridge humbucker fat thats not gonna happen...

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

Here is a custom made billy gibbons tele, with a seymour duncan custom shop pearly gates.

It doesn't matter what Billy uses live all his guitars go through a frequency analyzer then a digital, preset-able graphic EQ and gain boost to make whatever he plays live sound like a Les Paul.

He can, and does use Tele's and Gretsches as well as loads of other custom guitars and they all sound the same because of his live rig...

if you turn down the tone pot and lose mids then you need to change the cap in the contol circuit. i use a .01 or .015 in lots of guitars

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

I disagree I saw him playing his les paul with pearly gates through a blackstar combo and it sounded great. His custom tele in the pic was made to sound like his les paul, here's how.The lil pearly gates pickup isn't slanted and it has a 24.6 scale neck which sounds hoopy/vintage,because it has more mids and less highs.Just like his les paul the scale and pickups are the same.Thats why they sound the same.

Re: Anyone hate tele bridge as much as me?

check out billys rig rundown on youtube, it covers the whole thing.

he sounds like billy gibbons no matter what, cause hes billy gibbons. he plays the same licks with the same fingers regardless of what guitar/amp hes using. on the old records you can hear different tones cause he used different guitars and didnt cover everything up in the studio.

a lil pearly gates doesnt "hear" the same amount of the string as a full size pearly gates so might sound similar but aint gonna sound the same. the ash body/bolt on maple neck with a tele style bridge guitar isnt gonna sound like a mahogany/maple set mahogany neck les paul with tune-o-matic bridge even if they are the same scale.
