'scuse me....Twin Tube Mayhem
This pedal may keep me from buying a highgain amp, what I have heard of it,it really does sound like tube distortion and not a stomp box, infront of my tubeworks 2X12 this may make the metal monster i have always wanted.

Have you played it? do you love it? do you hate it? WHY?

Well, I can't speak for the TTM but I have the EH Metal Muff and, like you, I don't have to buy the metal monster amp that I've always wanted. I have a Peavey Classic 30 head with an Avatar 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's. I have my classic tones all the way up to brewtal. I like!!!

well to date my favorite distortion pedal by far is the Rocktron metal planet, but it dont play well with my tubeworks amp( but man you should hear what it unleashes in my Valve jr.) my Tubeworks amp is 100+ watts and has great cleans and crunch, but Im looking for a more compressed and heavier distortion than its capabe of...but man the tone on this amp is to die for. Its a hybrid consisting of two 12ax7 in two seperately voiced but stackable channels and a MOSFET poweramp section, its designed by B.K.Butler after his seperation from Marshall, but is more like a mesa in tone. I love this amp but I just never have been able to find that high gain box that suits it.

well i never tried the TTM but i have tried the Demonizer from damage control, which is also twin tube, and a vox bulldog. i opted for the bulldog which sounded far more natural and is, imho the best distortion pedal i have ever tried. but, it doesn't sound compressed at all, it has that wide british-like high gain sound (think more recent motorhead). if you want compressed high gain i suggest that you try the demonizer. it has many tweaking options and a built-in compressor, but it is pretty expensive.
here are some videos:

I have one and I use it to goose the low sensitivity input of my Marshall.

It hits pretty hard and the active controls do offer a wide range of tones. I don't know that it has enough juice for extreme metal settings but it is definately no TS9. I never run the gain past 2 oclock so there is a lot of push left and my tone is generally very agressive.

I bought one of those Tubeworks heads! I bought it broken, and ended up selling it to someone who wanted any Tubeworks head he could find. I wish I had kept it and waited to get it fixed!

Have you posted any clips with it?

I just got the Marshall back last week from the shop.

I'll stick a mic in front of it soon and post.

cool, Ive heard Evan's demo, just wanted to hear from someone who actually owns one, I play metal, but from what Ive heard its plenty heavy enough for the grind Im looking for.
Hearing it through a Marshall would be great
Im kinda bass heavy player, and my mids usually sit between 11 and 1 o'clock

Ive contemplated building a head box for the amp and ditching the combo because its huge and weighs a ton...TubeWorks was good stuff
Sorry Ive never recorded it, the convenience of line 6 software has kept me from recording anything via mic/amp
As far voicing and gain ,the guy i bought it A/B'd it with his Mesa mark IV for me.and it was frightening how close the sound is.

Re: anyone have or have played the SD Metal Mayhem pedal?

I got a TT Mayhem out of the Utoob contest a few months back... it's a cool pedal for sure, though I don't know if it'd be "metal" enough for some people. I guess it depends on what you're after... It's not a Rectumfryer in a box. Not even close. Plenty of gain for sure, but the EQ corners and the overall texture are more like a Mark series amp and conjure Black Sabbath or FumanChu rather then In Flames or Shadows Fall.

It's not quite "sharp" enough to hit those targets... Maybe with the right amp. I've tried it with my solid state H&K combo; '61 blonde Bandmaster and an '84 JCM800. I don't think I've put it through the AC30... though I probably have.

I've also found that it works best as the last pedal in line...

Re: anyone have or have played the SD Metal Mayhem pedal?

It's a rather full and looser side of the spectrum.
It would do the chugga djent stuff well ,but lacks tightness for people like me.
It could be very useful with midgain amps for shure ,but not enough to be a preamp for serious metal playing ,at least more technical style.
It doesn't have the Recto sag either.
So it stays between the two corners.Well rounded ,but not a specialist.
