ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

lol my post count in this thread is ridiculous for an amp I don't own.
Excuse me, I have to switch back to photoshop to finish up my Carvin tattoo I'm gonna get as a tramp stamp.

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

ok I this seems to be way better information then I have been seeing. its kinda funny cause usually when someone says anything bad about any of the carvin amps I ask what amp have they owned and their response is " oh I would never own a piece of crap amp." when I ask why they feel that way it turns into something like, " well my uncles friends nephew knew this guy who had one." if its just the fear of haven't to commit to try on out I get it. I have been that way myself heck I have bought 3 amps and carvins was always in the mix but I always opted for what I could try, and boy that hasn't turned out very good. I gotta a peavey vypyr that every now and then will feeze and I have to reboot it (yes I said reboot an amp) then I got my blackstar that will die on stage once ever 4 to 8 weeks then the next morning work fine (supposedly fixed now) and know I have a jcm 205h and a laney 2x12 cab which I love but I want to get rid of the blackstar combo and get another head, so I guess with my experience I need to try carvin. know the question is which one. the legacy 3 looks cool but is it like most signature amps where it doe the artist tone and that's it? or is it very flexible where tone is concerned? I see the v3 is very versitle but it may have a lot of stuff I wont use and I have heard they are hard to dial in, the x100b seems very good for certain styles bt don't know if it has enough gain for some of the styles I need to cover

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

Peaveys are going to be Chinese unless you get one of the expensive numbered ones. They're good amps, but if you don't need hi-gain, that's that.

.

Sorry to jack the thread but I thought Peavy was USA made (I am talking about the 6500 series)?

FWIW I have generally heard good things about Carvin as value tube amps.

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

Was vIAS CARVINS upset at the drummer?

I think it was a Legacy 1 that blew. It was made that vIA had a couple Legacy 3s sitting around as backup. The vid is on youtube somewhere...just a sec.
here it is. 3:55.

What I've heard from various places and online demos:
The V3 is a brittle high gain, and ALOT of gain on tap. Like previously mentioned, Mesa Rec territory, or maybe Hughes and Kettner Warpish. It's got a quartet of EL84 power tubes which don't add a tremendous amount of color.

The Legacy has a quartet of EL34s, which are your british tasty power tubes. Same with the V3 head.

Man, that's a lot of power tube for a little lunchbox head in that Legacy. That's a monster.

The x100b can have 5881s, EL34s or 6L6s. There's 4 of em. That's some significant awesome, right there. I didn't know that.
The x100b is something I would classify as hi gain territory. Not Mesa, but probably VHT Pitbull or Soldano.

Seriously, just try em.

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

I have 2 amps - Egnater Tweaker 15 head and Carvin Belair 212. Carvin Belair has an excellent clean channel, but the soak channel hardly gets used. I mainly bought the amp for its clean channel. For overdrive or distortion, I'll use pedals. I got this amp for around $300 used.

The Egnater Tweaker you can do pretty much everything with. For metal (ex: Carcass) I'll use the British channel (Marshall) with gain halfway up, and distortion & overdrive pedals in front of the amp. Brutal. Or for early 60's stuff, use the American channel (Fender) with low gain and bright settings. I got the head for $250 used.

If you're looking for an excellent clean channel at an inexpensive price, you'll like the Carvin Belair and Nomad. If you want an amp that's versatile and can handle any situation, check out the Egnater Tweaker. If I had to sell one amp, I would keep the Egnater.

H&K Warp is solid state. Awesome amp.

Ye$ he doe$

I am all about guitar hero gear (I have Paul Gilbert's pups) but you have to take most reviews and endorsements from famous peeps with a grain of salt.

Most yes, but Vai helped design the Legacy and has usd them since 1999. A little different than Malmsteen saying her used Crate

Some of the PVs are made in the USA. I know the Classic series is for sure, not sure about their other lines.

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

The Legacy 3 is bad ass. You have to use your ears to dial it in but once you do it is a beast. The L3 and a Tweaker 15 for some vox/fender things have have mostly replaced my vintage amps in the studio

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

Vai used the x100b for many years before helping design the Legacy. I believe he got his first one for Frank.

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

Carvin amps are superb !! Great build, great tones and the Legacy 3 sounds gorgeous through my 2x12 V30s

I've had the Legacy 1 (too heavy and too loud), XV combo (nice), Nomad (good for pedals but very low gain) and now the Legacy 3 to replace a Boogie (no comparison at all)

Cleans like a Lonestar and 2 gain channels full of elastic depth - easy to set up and the Steve Vai video tones will be found within 5 minutes at bedroom or stage volume. Forget the naff "dark" reviews, they set the presence control like a Marshall and gave up trying harder, I've never had a presence control like it before - great tool

I'm playing a custom strat and a Carvin CT4 at the same settings - gorgeous !!

I also tried the V3M but is sounded thin compared to the Legacy 3

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

I have a vintage 80's XV-212 along with a matching 4X12 cab. I love the thing. Cleans are pristine and there is a very functional presence knob. Gain chanel is Marshallesqe with a high gain option via push pull. Plus a switchable 5 way eq. There is also a power scaling switch, effects loop and 4,8,16 ohm output switch. Oh and a three switch foot pedal.

Re: ANYONE KNOW ABOUT CARVIN AMPS?

RE: Carvin amp Reasonable price made in usa, great customer service. The older ones had the fuzzy covering. After that mostly black, unless you buy new. I had a new x100b ,I ordered with black and white snake skin, looked great. Amp can do fender like cleans,to almost metal. EQ took long time to dial in,but once you experiment, very versatile loud amp. Google carvin x100b amp demos, and there are some very good demos. Hope this helps,Rockon Thanks,Codyboy.
