Got an Eminence Cannibus Rex and I've been running a CD player through the amp for about 12 hours every day. Up to about 49 hours as of the moment and my wife :cussing: is getting sick of Led Zeppelin, LOL. Is it true these hemp cones needs about 100 hours breakin or am I about there now?:fest7:

Depends... What kind of lighter/bowl are you using? :)

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

Quick question. What are the tonal advantages of a hemp speaker cone?

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

You can smoke it when it breaks..?

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

Well, hemp fibres are MUCH stronger than the paper\wood fibres thats usually used in speakers. ;)

it's not really a better or worse that a paper cone issue just a different tone. There are 2 companies making cones from Hemp so far. There is the Eminence Cannibus Rex and there is a company called tone tubby that makes all their speakers from hemp and I am under the impression that these 2 speakers sound VERY different.

People say that they are sort of dark sounding with a rolled off treble and massive punch in the lows an low mids.

I recently tried a 2x12 cab wiuth the Cannibus Rex in it an I thought it sounded great!

Cool, thanks for the answer TGWIF.

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

actually tone tubby makes a paper cone speaker as well but the hemp things is their baby. the cannibis rex is licenced to eminenece by tone tubby who i believe has a pat pending on the hemp cone.
tone tubby makes a few different cones that sound different.

hemp is strong so they are trying to make the cone as thin as possible to get a very responsive speaker.

my rex took forever to break in, a few days with the cd player (and after the first day it was LOUD music going thru there) but it really took a couple hours of my amp on 10 to finish the break in.

very cool speaker

Dig it.

Isn't that Cheech in your av? :smokin:

Steve Kimock has a whole thing on his page about speakers, what he's tried, what they sounded like (to him) and compared & contrasted a fair amout of what's out there to the Tone Tubby hemps which he played a role in developing...great read from a killer player!

Kimock speaker article

An yeah...his tone is ungodly. One of guys who totally makes either want to quit or head back to the woodshed, and he's WAY humble too!

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

I'll tell ya, this speaker sounded great right out of the box so I'm expecting some really good things when its broken in. Matched up (to me) SO well with the G12H30.

Actually, it's Tommy Chong.......a painting of him, after his release from Federal Prison for 9 months. He was used as an example by John Ashcroft in Operation Pipe Dreams, when the govt unfairly targeted the glass industry. My brother also had his life ruined in that string, because he was the owner of the largest glass company in California. He lost everything, but didn't go to prison. They only sent Chong to prison to make an example out of a guy who glorified pot culture through comedy. Google Operation Pipe Dreams to read more about this shameful thing that the govt. did to law abiding tax paying glass companies.

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

That's a PAINTING??? My god, I thought it was a photo. Incredible. Big Brother. Gotta love it. I've said many times if George Washington and co. ever saw what this government became I think they would have let the redcoats win.

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

i hope that hemp cones are more attractive and comfortable than hemp clothing:laugh2: You have to wonder how much of this is a gimmick.

Re: Anyone know about how long it takes to break in a hemp speaker?

As for Pipe Dream, although the "glass" industry has been tempting fate for years, thus was another case of "your tax dollars at work.":smokin: :laugh2: Complete waste of manpower and resources, IMHO. I feel that way about ALL such activities, including government entities suing gun companies, and cigarette maufacturers. End of quasi political rant:chairfall
