It ain't like I'm lookin for one. However, I might have fell into one for nothing. How much they worth man? Talk to Daddy Shockah...:)

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

i think they're actually OK for what they are. they have a solid state output section, so for a 100 watt amp it won't crank as much as a 100 watt all-tube amp would, but it should still keep up with a full band. an old buddy of mine had the 2x12 valvestate combo, and it actually sounded pretty decent.

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

I had a valvestate, it was all solid state. I wasn't crazy about the sound. It had a stereo chorus (I think) built in. I was thinking some of the earlier ones were solid state output with a tube pre-amp. Not positive about that, though. Mine reminded me of a MG series. The one you're looking at may be better.

Yeah, get it - then you can dump the 5150 and the JVM :D

There's a really good band around here called Hold Up Your End. The guitarist uses an Epi LP and a Epi SG (usually the SG) and a Marshall valve state through Marshall cabs. Although I love the band, I hate his tone. I'd just stick with the JVM and 5150 if I were you.

LOL...Actually, I kinda fell into something. I'm supposed to meet a guy here in about three hours or so. He's got a Marshall 1960b cabinet in great condition for sale for $300, and he's gonna throw in a Marshall 100 watt Valvestate head in with the deal. I figure if I can sell it for $100-$150 then that'd be perfect.

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

i'd go for it if you're getting a cab out of it. You may end up liking the amp. Im sure with certain pedals it wouldnt sound that bad, but ones ive heard really don't sound that good. My band actually has an older AVT 50 112 sitting around our practice room, my bassist doesn't own an amp so he uses that, it's not too hard to get a usable bass tone out of it.

That's interesting.

Yeah ! Grab IT ! I just got a VS100R for free. Not a bad amp for the price. The cleans are alright, the O.D. is palletable and the High gain channel has more gain than I'd every use. It's a great amp to have for them outdoor gigs when ya know it's gonna rain. IMO everyone should have a beater amp for those occasions where ya know you might need one.:scared:

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

I had a VS100 2nd gen for several years. Very cool amp. Neil Schon toured with them for a bit. Not worth much 200-250?? I think your is the 1st gen which is much brighter, nothing a volume cap swap would not fix.

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

Let me know if you decide to sell it for $100 or so, I have a 4x12 in the garage that is looking sad an lonely, sad an lonely...

jolly you outta put one 4X12 with the valvestate by the couch in the living room to noodle around with while watching tv. that still leaves the 5150 and marshall halfstacks in the dining room. lol.

I most certainly will do.

That's a good idea man.

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

I had one of the 1st gen 80 watt combos, and I used that for about 8 years constantly. Never going to do "proper" valve tones, but makes a pretty good imitation.

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

The guy I play with uses a 100 watt Valvestate head. Bought it sometime around 1990 I think. I don't care much for it. It's a useable sound I suppose but a little too middy for my tastes. The gain is a little boring and unauthoritative IMHO.

Re: anyone know anything about a Marshall 100 watt valvestate?

I had the VS100 combo. Nice, took effects well, nice effects loop. Much nicer and warmer than their MG series, sounded very close to a Marshall TSL that I tried (doesn;t say much for the TSL)
