Anyone know what pickups these are?

I bought these for $20 from a local guy who claimed they were gibsons. They are low output humbuckers (around 8K IIRC). I bought them to fill a Schecter PT that came stock with a 59 and a JB. I plan to keep the Duncans as I like them very much. However if these really are Gibson pickups I totally scored and this will be a good selling point for the guitar (as opposed to import stock).

I am dubious. The tape seems correct and the tops look gibson, but the unmatched bottom plates tell me they are probably import pickups. It is just the braided wire that is throwing me off. The core of which is black.

i'm no expert but most of the gibsons i own and have seen have a marking like "gibson usa" or some type of engraveing. even the old 59 i have has a mark on it. but i would do some more reserch. just to be shure

Stupid geocities. I will probably be exceeding my limit soon. There is no sticker and no engraving. The Gibsons I have had used a sticker over the wax so it could peel off easily. That is why I ask. That sticker would tell me everything if it were there.

what did the guy you bought them from say they where 57? 59? ive got a couple things on my table i'm triing to find simalaritys in them

I shrunk the picture files so I don't eat up as much "data transfer." The guy did not know for sure. I think he may have been testing me. As a matter of dealing I called his bluff (not implying he was lieing), but he is a full time luthier at a Guitar Center (the only one in the whole chain of Guitar Centers in fact) He works AT and GC not FOR GC. He rents the space. He has been doing it since I was a bitty kid... so for about 20 years.

I do not know if if knew what he had. He is really nice to me and once sold me a full set of JEM PAF Pro pickups (in hot oink) for $50.00. They were awesome but for the color.

IIRC, 57's dont have engraving on them and they have a Patent applied for sticker. Well, from the factory they do but, the sticker comes off super easy. If I see a good picture, I should be able to figure out if they are gibsons or not.

None of the Gibson pu's I've seen have the engraving, other than the early 70's models that had the engraving on the cover. They either have the PAF sticker on the bottom (57's and BB's) or nothing.

I'm a humbucker guy and it really hard to tell. But i would say not factory made. Too much excess wax and different baseplates. I own a similar pickup: i was told that is was from a small run of Peter Florance Custom 60ies he made for the Frankfurt Music Fair. Double black no markings, long legged, braided wire but no potting.
Could be anything but not Gibson

Hmmm... Im not an expert on them by any means, but I know that when your talking original Gibson PAF's or even the repro's, they only had the "patent applied for" sticker on the bottoms'. No stamped Gibson USA logo's on them. Those could have come off or been pulled off?? What do they sound like??

I think these are ok, but would fit with an SG or LP better. They sound similar to Duncan 59s. I just want something lighter and brighter.


I was using them in a Jackson DKMGT. I think I will do SD Jazz or PAF PROs in that and keep it simple.

I am not big into the Gibby sound because I prefer Gibsons with Marshall amps (I have Fender).

Coo man! I would bet on the Guitar tech that didnt lie to you the last time you had dealings with you. He seems honest enough...but I've never met him--

I don't think he is dishonest. I think he would remember pulling them out of a gibson, but whatever. I already traded them locally for 2 JBs. Rock and ROLL!
