Anyone Like Flange? Pictures of Flangers

Re: Anyone Like Flange? Pictures of Flangers

Around 1990, there was a band on an Indie label out of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Kinda death metalish sound to them. Everyone in the band used a flanger, and it was on 100% of the time. Two guitarists, the bass player, AND the vocalist. I had a one hour chat with the studio engineer who was trying to record their debut album, and he was tearing his hair out trying to figure out how to get an audible recording out of the mess.

The bands name was Labia.

I don't know what happened to them.

They should be arrested for 3rd Degree Flanger Abuse.

I liked the way Mike Rutherford used it in "Follow Me", but I've never used them a lot. There is a flanger in my effects rack and I've used the DeltaLab one on the Effectron Jr, but other than that, I guess I'd rather use a phaser.

I've got that ADA flanger, too! Yeah, it really does sound great. I used to use it for chorusing, which it does very well. I rely mostly on my Lexicon MPX-1 for effects now, though. I have the ADA flanger patched into my signal loops so I can select it if I want to. It does have a unique sound. Can't do VH's "Eruption" without a good flanger!!!

Re: Anyone Like Flange? Pictures of Flangers

The ADA is really a fun pedal, even for players that don't normally like Flangers.
After I got mine, which is over 20 yrs old, I decided to fine tune the internal trim pots.
There's a trim pot for nearly every part of it's circuit, inside. I spent a few hours with the ADA on my lap and a miniscrewdriver, while figuring out how to make each trim pot optimize the sound of the pedal. Each knob is somehow connected to a trimpot, so you only have to fiddle with the knob and trimpot to dial in the sound that knob makes.
It's tricky, especially since I'm not an ADA tech who knows what value they're supposed to be set at, but going by ear is going to get you what you want.
