Anyone looking for a killer deal on a USA-made, vintage style tele?

Many of my old friends on the forum probably know that I've done several custom projects using USA Custom Guitar parts.

I was talking to my good friend Tommy Rosamond at USA Custom the other day. He told me a story about referring someone to Starr Guitars for a build, and he called Kip at Starr "the East Coast John Bolin". That intrigued me, so I looked them up, and saw that they are organizing a killer deal on a USA made, vintage type tele:

"If we were to try and offer a $1000, made here in the USA, Starr Guitar, what kind of guitar would you be excited to buy? Understand that it would have to be very reasonable with construction and parts. Give us some feedback!"

and later...

"$1000 Tele deal is coming together! Or, T-style as we shall have to call them.
Anyway, Seymour Duncan Antiquity pups!"
Swamp Ash bodies, 1-piece maple necks
Custom bridge with Wilkinson compensated saddles! ["straight-pull"]
CTS pots, etc.
First run, 2 blonde white guard
2 Butterscotch Blackguard
1 Keef (w/humbucker)
Who's ready?

T neck specs:
21 fret, Jescar 9745 frets (equivalent to 6125 frets, between 6105 and 6150)
9.5" radius
.90" Soft V contour

***************************************************************
** here's some updated specs ** :
Body: 2-piece Lightweight Swamp Ash off-center seam
Neck: 1-piece Rock Maple 21 frets (Jescar 47095, in between 6105 and 6150)
Neck profile: .90" Soft V with 9.5" Radius
Pickups: Seymour Duncan Antiquity
Bridge: Lightly aged custom combo Fender plate with Wilkinson compensated saddles (straight pull)
Hardware: Lightly aged, all good stuff!
Electronics: CTS, CRL, Orange Drop, Switchcraft, etc.
Finish: Our custom-made Father Time nitrocellulose lacquer. Minimal coats, just like Leo did! Lightly aged, too!

No case included at this price, however, we can make arrangements for a slight upcharge for either a gig bag or hard case. Just ask!

these guitars are starting production ...
Kip has added a page on his web site for this tele project that includes some pictures of finish colors:

Looks pretty interesting, although the Starr logo grabs too much attention.

I was hoping this thread was about Curly selling some of his builds. :scratchch

as an update, here's the finished guitar ...

to his credit, Kip said it took him three of these to figure out he just couldn't build a cheap guitar ... there's one left at this price -- a Daphne blue with less aging than mine

so, if anyone is interested, or if you know someone looking for a good vintage style T with Antiquities, there you go

Knowing me, i would replace that scratch plate with a black one !

Re: Anyone looking for a killer deal on a USA-made, vintage style tele?

another update ... I got this today, and it's 6.8 lbs. of T love

the setup was beautiful -- I could not stop playing it... It played so easily, I thought it must've had 9's on it ... I called Kip to say thanks, and he said it had Boomer 10s, so that's a darn good set up

there's one more left at this price -- it's daphne blue ... again, if someone is looking for a great deal on a T-style, I'd jump on it. After getting mine, I can highly recommend Kip for a build.
