Anyone played a Dean V?

Re: Anyone played a Dean V?

Deans are some of the best out there with both there imports and the US guitars (especially the US guitars). I haven't played a V, but I can assure you, I've played enough of Dean's guitars to know that they are a very consistant when it comes to quality. You will not be disappointed.

Re: Anyone played a Dean V?

my friend has a korean made Dean Z ( explorer shape ) the quality on it freaking blows me away every time i see it.

Re: Anyone played a Dean V?

Dean and Hamer both are IMO, the best kept secrets in guitars.

Both companies Import models are the best bang for the buck axes out there, and the USA stuff is just incredible...very expensive new (especially Dean), but don't hold their value like a Gibson or PRS, so you can get some super sweet deals on used equipment.

I LOVED my MIK ML79...didn't really want to sell it... luckily I've got another MIK Dean on the way thanks to a certain wonderful woman I know :) I'll give a report in the next few days.

The Black Gold V you are looking at is the same construction as the 79s, but with "improved" aesthetics...triple ply binding on body *and* headstock. Flame maple veneer on the headstock, block inlays, gold hardware. Otherwise they are the same guitars. Sonically, playability-wise, no difference.

Almost all of these are imports. Dean and Hamer are kinda under the radar and good values verses money spent even new. The Black Gold Vs are top notch extra special versions based on the '79 series.

^ showoff! :) nice collection. i've really been digging flying V basses. BTMN, you are not helping my GAS problem!

Re: Anyone played a Dean V?

its damn near impossible to find a V bass without spending a ton of money. my roomate has been searching for one for years. dean just put out a real low-budget one, but he wants more than 1 pickup

Re: Anyone played a Dean V?

I played one of the original Dean v's from the late 70's and it was a very solid guitar. The neck was a bit more narrow than a Gibson but it was deep and built like a tank. Very heavy! It is funny how these brands that have DIED become reborn with new management.

These are custom run Import Deans. They were made for the Dean Owners Open House Dean hosts in February every year. The V was #11/25 in 2004 and the Z #11/12 in 2005. I opted not to get the Trans Green with Black binding ML this year. They can still be had. A few are left of the MLs. The other runs are long gone. The bass run dropped to 12 the past two years but next year is supposed to be a Hardtail bass and I bet they go back to 25.

Any specific guitar you wanna see there Jolly?

Re: Anyone played a Dean V?

Yes, but in a standard Explorer shape. Although, that is one nice lookin guitar. I found this last night and was drooling over it.:

Thats a MIK limited run import for that Dealer. I bought my first Dean from that fellow. He's good to deal with. And yup she is very pretty!

Don't see too many Zs (explorer) in blue..except for the plaintop 79 series "bluebursts".

How 'bout this one? :D
