Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I ran across their website and thought they look pretty fantastic. I love the Zip tie Idea way over damn velcro.
So who has one and tell me about the pro's and con's. I built my own Pedal board but I like the design of these things.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

Stratman was the first I ever saw with one (even before I saw it on the internet) but he's been away.

A few others have one here.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I was going to go that route, but I couldn't find a footprint that worked for me. Cool idea.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

Zip ties are a much better solution. I even use them on my PedalTrain.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I don't have one, but I've been seriously thinking about it especially since Chemistry Design Werks is local. I'm torn between the M3 wide and the new Dragonfly, but the Dragonfly is expensive and I don't know if I'd use the smaller configuration. I've also used zip ties in the past and can confirm that they work much better than velcro or dual lock.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I built one similar and didn't care for it. Went with a Pedaltrain novo

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I don't understand how zip ties are better than 3M Industrial Velcro.

Zip ties can wear off the paint on both sides of the pedals.

Another creative idea I've seen is using the pedal's bolts to attach bicycle chain links facing outward. Then, you screw the chain links into the board.

Yeah, I saw an ad for a company offering a board like that awhile back.. thought it looked cool and alot less messy. Called pedal links. looks clean and cool.

I tried zip ties on my homemade boards at first cuz I didnt want to stick on velcro, but they moved too much, so I switched to velcro.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I don't have a Holy Board, but I did make myself a board that uses Zip ties. Why? Because velcro sucks!

But even with Zip ties, I sometimes run out of them, or misplace them, whatever.....

So I've been looking at Monarch Boards, no Zips, no Velcro...... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1190978947/monarch-pedalboards
Thats awesome, I love the design. Now if they have a 2nd level platform for like your Effects loop effects , that would be Killer. Love the locks and I think it's a fantastic idea.

I like to move my pedals around too much. Or take of just the dirt box for one gig. Maybe dirt box & delay. So one day the damn velcro stopped working, it started peeling off the board and some pedals. It sounds easy to fix, just take off the velcro and put on some new one right? Wrong. The board gets all sticky, so do the pedals, and removing it is a PITA. Zip ties are easier, just cut them off & add a new one, they're cheaper and cleaner (IMO).

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

Zip ties are not all that Holey claims that they are.

Industrial Velcro is better.

Board is heavy, even without pedals.

Trying to figure which pedal works best is a headache.

Now use a rack with two GCX switchers and a GCP.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

Nice man , can the Octa Switch do amp control or just pedal control?

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

They now make a Holey Board with pedal switchers in mind. I ordered one last week, should be getting it in the next few days. I don't actually use a switcher, but I have a lot of pedals and I like having the foot switch for my amps, a big a$$ MkV switch, on my board, and didn't know which one would be best.

Here in Florida, it is always the glue side of velcro (even the 3m mushroom stuff) that fails, due to the high humidity. Zip ties haven't yet scraped any paint off, and they don't leave a sticky gummy residue, or a pile of pedals at the bottom of a case- sure to knock some paint off.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I think Velcro Sucks. It's so hard to get the pedals off once they are stuck which also can be a good thing. But as said it wears out and then they just slide around.
Zip ties don't Lose grip over time, they just hold on until you cut them.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

%#$!@%# I just switched everything from zips to velcro... now ya got me bumming....

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

Don't feel bad, I much prefer Velcro! I've never had a peda fall off a board, and I can rearrange at will.

Re: Anyone Rocking a Holey Board?

I have one of the Holeyboards, but I haven't set it up yet (bought it unfinished, and haven't painted it yet).

Seeing as this will be my first pedalboard, I am cautiously optimistic.
