why doesn't fender have any good colors anymore (that CAR looks really off while I'm at it...)

Anyways, a strat isn't a strat but there are too many of them for me to keep track of, without enough differences from another. sounds alright... I guess.

but when I hear "v shaped neck" that's my cue to leave.

I could build a Warmoth replica for half that. That's my problem with Fender, they make a ton of different Strats, but there is very little difference among them. I wouldn't go so far as to say a Strat is a Strat, but I understand what he means. Sure, one might have a different radius, or a different neck shape, or different electronics, but they're all pretty similar if you ask me.

Normally, I have zero interest in owning a signature model, but his specs happen to be what I'd consider my ideal strat, so I'm VERY interested in having one.

I'd be willing to pay up to $1300 total, and unfortunately a lot of these won't be hitting the used market anytime soon. When they do, it'll be a seller's market.
Maybe I'll wait till I see the right price, then part with two lesser guitars to get one.
If I play one, and it's nothing special, I'll move on. However, if I play one of them, and it's the best strat ever, I'll get one when I can. I only want the sunburst one.

I'm vaguely interested, but to be honest, I doubt the neck will be chunky enough. For me to spend on a high-end fender, I'd want a big, chunky neck like the my SRV or '76 had.

For that money, I'd be looking for a s/h Anderson Classic.

No need for harsh replies but it's true...Fender makes these fancy Strats to famous peoples' specs and sells 'em for huge prices, but it's really easy to have a Strat made to your own specs for a lot less. Why buy his when you could have yours...

I think its a nice Strat, but I doubt I'd buy one. One of the things that they don't mention on the Fender site, or at MF, but they say in the catalog, is that it uses 375k control pots.

If that were true Why do they make so many variations of them? From what I read about it it seem that EJ and Fender have done a nice job of fixing some problems with the Vintage Strats (such as FB radius went from 7.25" to 16") and at the same time made it look, feel and sound like a vintage strat.

Why does this always come up when people talk about strats and not any other guitar? Warmoth sells parts for LPs as well. And almost every other popular guitar. If you are inclined to do so, have the time, have the tools, then yes...you probably could build your own. But for those of us who own only a handful of tools, half of which are screwdrivers that are in the junk drawer, building a guitar makes as much sense as building your own refrigerator.

i'd hazard a guess that it's because the bolt neck makes it WAY more doable than a glued neck ... a bolt neck LP is just wrong

i really think it is a testament to the genius of Leo Fender's design ... simple, effective, tweakable ... an everyman's guitar ...

an analogy to the AK-47 or the volkswagon comes to mind .. but i dont know enough about cars or guns to back it up ... so i'll let it be ...

Of course, I'm really not a single coil guy so that's another impediment to my love of FMIC products.

Because strats are very simple to assemble. Besides those screwdrivers in the drawer, the only other tool you'd really need is a soldering iron.

The EC looks pretty sweet.

I think that there are reasons for the different models of Strat (besides marketing by FMIC). This is obvious...pretty much this has to do with Fender offering the Strat with humbuckers and Floyd's stock without alienating their hardcore 'vintage' Strat fans (so they offered multiple options on the same axe). Of course now they have too many variations from the factory.

IMHO, it is the details that make for a great Strat. I'll probably check this one out.

haha ... I'm with Joneser on this one ... EJ's specs are darn near perfect .. let me ask you, which would YOU buy, an Eric Clapton or this one?

I GUARANTEE that lots of lawyers' and doctors' sons will be lining up to get one

anyway, a strat is a strat .. but a strat with 6100 frets is different than a strat with 6150 frets, etc, etc .... it's a great platform, and highly adaptable, which is another indication of a brilliant design
