I'm just curious, since I've been messing with magnets lately. I'm wondering if a 59B with ceramic would be like a Custom lite?
Anyone know?

I wonder if the ceramic magnet would make it brighter than it already is probably not a good thing with that pup!
I tried a Demon with a ceramic and it was uggly , with a fizzy top .
You could try an alnico 8 instead ?
The Jackson J-50BC humbucker is very close to a ceramic ´59... I haven´t used one in quite some time, so I can´t make definite statements. At least not past: I liked it.
I wondered about that. My 1980 Artist came with a J50B in the bridge, and it sounded like a punchy, powerful '59. Of course, I haven't had a '59 bridge in years so my memory of that one may be off...
Alnico 8 would definitely be better than ceramic in a 59. As would Alnico 6...
Thanks for all the input guys. I'll probably just sell that pickup instead of tamper with it.
Zang, I have an A3 magnet lying around. Do you think A3 is good for a Custom bridge, or would I be better off saving that magnet for a neck pickup? I've heard a lot of good things about A3 and A4 in neck pickups. Your thoughts?
I tried a Jazz with Ceramic. Just sounded wired and not even close to my 496R.
I remember there were people on here saying how horrible the JB would sound if one wanted to swap in the ceramic into it if they swapped the Alnico 5 into the Custom to make the fabled Custom 5. I tried it and the JB ceramic was hands down better than the Custom 5. I remember people saying the pickup was not only bad but totally unuseable.
I'm pretty sure the JB w/ceramic = Distortion. So, that's what you probably ended up with....a Duncan Distortion.
