Anyone tried a Demon in the neck?

Well, the title says it all. Has anyone around here put a Screamin Demon in the neck, and what were the results? I'm looking for a shred happy neck pickup and I've never tried a Demon so I was wondering about it. It would be paired with a Distortion in the bridge, so I'm assuming they will compliment each other as I've heard of people usenig a Demon bridge with a DDn. Thanks

I remember some member on the old board used to swear by Screaming Demon neck with a Custom bridge. I forget who, though.

Re: Anyone tried a Demon in the neck?

I have tried a Demon in the neck and did not like it. Since it is a bridge humbucker (a dark sounding one) it does not have enough treble or sparkle. The 59 neck sounded MUCH better and I don't really think that anyone would disagree if they heard both side by side like I did. I think that the demon also has to much output for the neck and gets muddy more easily.

I had it paired with a Distortion, and was not that crazy about it. It was ok for single note stuff, but overall, too muddy. It should be noted, I don't really like the JB in the neck, either.

Unlike EMGs and DiMarzios, I think Duncans are neck & bridge specific.

Re: Anyone tried a Demon in the neck?

ok ive used both neck and bridge versions of the demon in the neck positions. The neck version was very glassy and clear for a humbucker and translated attack very well even in monstrously hi-gain situations. Bass muddy for hi gain rythms though ( great for stonerdoom ?)

I found the bridge version to be more balanced eq wise. It's not terribly high output like you would expect out of a " shred" pup but It's excellent for oldschool thrash riffs ( basis for the Ian Diablo) . Even though it's a " bridge" pup, I'm putting it in the neck position of a project guitar that will have an Invader in the bridge. Both position models have a lot of character but I don't think they would be my 1st choice for what you need if I didin't already own them.

Re: Anyone tried a Demon in the neck?

Ooops, let me explain, I bought an ESP that had a Demon in the bridge and a LIL Screamin Demon single coil sized humbucker in the neck. They sounded different yet still well matched so I made that assumption.. But yes I see now that there is no actual full sized neck version. They have similiar basic characteristics but are different enough in tone and output that I didn't think them both to be bridge versions of the same pup, even if one of them is squeezed down to half size. That LIL demon has a beautiful, clear tone with a nice amount of bass.

Re: Anyone tried a Demon in the neck?

I just put in a Demon in the neck of a Peavey T-60. Added the slotted screws to try it out. Has a great jazz sound and general clean sound. Powerful without being boomy. Sorry I am pretty vague, but I didn't get a chance to play it long cuz the Parallel Axis Distortion in the bridge didn't work for some reason, so I got to pull the pickguard off and try again.
