Anyone tried a rough A5 in a 59/Custom?

Re: Anyone tried a rough A5 in a 59/Custom?

Fender Esquire players feel they get their best sound without the neck pickup magnets pulling on the strings.
"Feel" is the key word here.

Unfortunately, their reasoning has no grip in the real world governed by the laws of physics. Sorry! ;)

You know, I wondered about that. I never thought it had any kind of influence, either, or at least could be lowered enough so that it doesn't.

I removed the magnets from the dummy bridge pickups of my 2 jazz guitars recently. I wasn't able to tell if it improved general playing, but it did allow for warble free playing on the 6th string.

Considering the source (a musical genius) I think Allen Holdsworth is probably correct.

Although humbucking pickups don't have as much pull on the strings as single coils do.

Allan certainly was a genius, and he had some weird ideas about gear. You can't argue with that, he had a vision and stuck to it. Funny to think he cared about sustain, as he played so many notes, he never landed on one for very long!
