Anyone tried the EMG 57/66 set yet?

Re: Anyone tried the EMG 57/66 set yet?

If I have time tomorrow, I'm going to polish the frets and try to get the Washburn strung up. If I make it that far, it'll be Sunday before I can finish setting it up. Then, it's just a matter of waiting for my new tubes to get here (hopefully Monday), so I can crank up the amp. These videos make me excited. Wish I could play like Andy James, though...sheesh!

That official EMG clip is pretty nuts. I wonder how they sound/feel with an 18V mod.

Re: Anyone tried the EMG 57/66 set yet?

These sound like a low output version of the JH set that i have. I'll definitely be trying some of these out at some point. If they're anything like the JH set they wont need the 18v mod as they already have bucketloads of headroom

NOT ME :) Just some vids I looked up...

P.S., apparently they come stock in the new 2013 ESP "LTD ELITE" Eclipse-I, as well!

Oooh.... I gotta go look around and see if any local stores have that guitar in stock.

Actually, I just sold them to rjudo!

I have so much going on right now, I ran out of time to demo them (moving, new job, upcoming vacation, plus my own wedding...). I plan on grabbing another set when things calm down a bit and I have my playing room back.

Another video from Andy James, they sound very, very nice, I particularly like the neck tone, very sweet....

The bridge has a touch of aggression to it, but none of the hard ceramic tone that I would expect from an 81, yet also tighter than I would expect an 85 in the bridge to be.

The neck tone was sweet all over. I generally find many Alnico V based neck pickups bland (just personal preference with few exceptions) and opt for Alnico II, but that neck tone is somehow sweet on the top end with a very balanced midrange.

I think EMG has a winning pair with those two. Just for reference, my main guitars have Duncan Distortion, Alnico II Pro, and EMG-81/85 18 volt pups.

These are definitely hi-fi sounding, but sweet at the same time. I was surprised to see the mini Recto stack in the background too. The rectifier sounds I get from my Triaxis (2.0 model with the rectifier orange circuit) definitely sounds more rude.

Christ, I need to try these! I wonder if these would be awesome in an explorer?

Re: Anyone tried the EMG 57/66 set yet?

wow!... the bridge one sounds reaaaally close to the Gibson 57, actually I liked the EMG a tiny bit better

I know they are DAMN close!

I can tell the neck pickup is the EMG but holy cow that is splitting hairs.
