Anyone try the YJM Fury pickups with 500k volume/250k tone pots?

I love the YJM pickups I have with the 250k pots with OD and even high gain as they scream, but I'm thinking about trying a neck and middle pickup on a guitar that will have a regular humbucker in the bridge and the guitar has a 500k volume pot and a 250k tone pot. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried them before. I'd love to have a little brighter clean tone from the YJM pickups, so I'm hoping the 500k volume will brighten them up (it should), but I'm wondering what effect the 250k tone pot will have also. I'm going to try it within the next few weeks...just thought I'd see if anyone else has done it also.

That's one of my favorite combos. The 500k volume pot is a big improvement in the clarity of tone and a bump up in brightness but not out of control. The 250k tone pot doesn't mess anything up, everything still sounds 500k, but the 250k tone pot tapers the best out of all the pot values. If you want even more treble you can turn it into a 250k no load tone pot easily.

Remember, for the most part, Yngwie disconnects his tone controls. So he's hitting one 250k volume pot, and nothing else. That's the equivalent of using a 500k volume plus a 500k tone. For you to use a 500k with 250's for tone is still a lower value than that. I address the stacked designs in this article, basically stating that stacks already have a muted peak sound vs. traditional single coils, so for me personally, the higher the better!

So you've tried this with the YJM pickups?

Cool, thanks for the info. I think it'll work good. I only want to add in a little more highs which is why I thought the 500k volume and 250k tone might do the trick. We'll see in a few weeks once I get all the stuff in.

I agree the 500k volume will add some extra clarity. Let us know how it works out!

I will. With any luck I'll be able to try it all out this weekend and see how it turns out.

this is an old thread, but the 500k/500k setup is a good one, and probably what id use with this set. as frank said above, thats similar to what yngwie uses with just a 250k volume and no tone
