have you used one yet by chance? i only say this b/c the studio my band practices in has a peavey XXL, a peavey ultra plus (same head i have) and a peavey 5150 along with some marshall's and mesa's...anyway...i tried the XXL out the day the studio owner got it pretty much fresh outta the box...i couldn't get a single sound i liked out of the thing. i think i'm spoiled by tube amps b/c the XXL just sounded real bland to me i wish i could explain it better but i just wasn't happy at all with the sound. anyway to get to the point...if your willing to buy used (i assume you are since your asking for the XXL here) go find a peavey ultra plus (ebay) this amp blows the XXL out of the water and it's an all tube 3 channel amp...plus they are not too $$$ either which is great. just a thought.

I had a XXL and it takes a little time to find its sweet spots. I miss mine at times and I currently have a Marsahll 2100 and a 2555SL if that tells ya anything.

i concur....i have an Ultra Plus that i picked up new-old-stock over the summer, for $500...popped in some new tubes and it KILLS. they go used for around $300-400, i believe.
