Anyone use WCR Wagner pickups?

Poor Mans Fillmore's are a Screaming Demon in the neck and a Epi Explorer neck (13k a5) in your bridge.
Haven't tried this yet but the DMZ Evo bridge or a DD neck should be mentioned cause you could change the magnet easily for a substitute for the Fillmore bridge.
I love the Fillmore's but I don't think they balance well...I've been told that plastic dial ornamentation on my guitar will do that but they look better on 10 (LOL).
I think the Fillmore neck is a better match for a hotter pickup like a SD Custom type or JB/DD. I think the Fillmore bridge is a better match for a 59n or Jazz (just my opinion).
Paper, I know you like the balance between BB1 and BB2 (Pros) so maybe you would be happy with the Fillmore's balance.
The Poor Mans Fillmore's aren't as glassy as a result of their being auto feed onto the bobbins but you can insert a popsicle stick to duplicate the air gap or go all the way and put a2s in.
I do not mean to offend any Fillmore owners…I realize what goes into them and what they sound like.
I have a friend with a set in a 79 Tokai Reborn that have been ABed against every relevant pickup I tried last year and as far as #43 bridge pickups go is probably my favorite.

For metal the Herc pickups sounds very interesting but not for $340 a pair!!!!! Don`t get me wrong,if i had the money to blow i would check em out but i don`t! WCR also suggests if you use their pickups its best to upgrade your pots and caps for best results...That`s too rich for me but would be pretty cool!!!!

I very nearly bought some of the goodwoods, but they're kind of a pickup to get once you're REALLY serious about getting "that" sound. The type of thing you buy when you've expelled your other options. Personally, if I were that serious about getting the most absolutely perfect paf sound, I would try to get some timbuckers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you want the real deal, you have to pay for it. Jim Wagner is a stand up guy. He promptly responds via e-mail to anyone, whether longtime buyers or new people inquiring about a product. To my ears, he makes the very best.
My Grosh had the best woods around, sounded great unplugged, but the Dimarzios in there were junk. WCR pickups gave me everything I could EVER ask for in a pickup. They are medium output. They don't clip clean amps like EMGs, but they cut better than low output pups. They are almost completely noiseless. And the tone is incredible. The SR/SR/Dark burst combo in my Grosh is IT for me. I nail all my favorite strat tones and can still play with tons of distortion and have every note shine and sustain. WCR pups sing unlike anything I've ever tried and that's what will keep me going back for more. Forget about the cost, pay once for the real thing. It sure beats paying 2 grand for vintage PAFs. I have two sets and I actually want to buy a new guitar just so that I can put in a third set. That's love
Others may find that they like tones and pups different than me or are perfectly happy with theirs, that's good. They are boutique pups, like Timbuckers or many others out there. They aren't cheap, but they are the "real deal" and the pups are without a shadow of a doubt in my mind some of the best available, period.

Hi Chris, thanks for the information and opinion. I have heard guys using the Fillmores but ended up going back to pickups such as the Rio Grande BBQ and Duncan Custom so those are the stories that cause me to shy away. I have a reliable source who has hundreds of Hamers with Duncans, Rios, and has used Fillmores but chooses the Rios as his number one pickup for best bang for the buck. Not trying to slam anyone, just giving some input. I agree...Jim is a great, great guy!
