I really like these guitars but the older high quality units are so rare. I like the units with the full bodies more then the broom sticks but any of the originals are very nice guitars.

Anybody playing one or have on in their collection?

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

I have 2 newer ones, a ZT3 and a Synapse.

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

I was more interested in who might be playing the older ones such as GL, GM, GR's....etc.

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

I own one of these, it doesn't get used a lot but its a great guitar.
It's an XM-2

I have played older ones many times. There is nothing wrong with them- they are great instruments. But if something like a TransTrem 2 starts to wear, parts are difficult to find and expensive.

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

Such is the price to pay for greatness. :)

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

Scanned this thread real quick yesterday. Then had a dream last night that I found a EVH Steinberger in my closet that I didn't know I had and rushed to this thread to give it a review.

SDUGF get out of my head :eyecrazy:

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

IIRC, the guitar EVH uses is an original Steinberger GL model.

Personally, I love all the models but I am saving for a GM or GR model...they have the larger bodies.

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

The stringclaws in the Bridge/Tuner section started decaying. They're made of an alloy that is too weak and they slowly tear apart and the string won't stay in.[ sorry about the fuzzy pic ]

My neighbour [ Who has since passed away from cancer ] was a retired tooling machinist. Had his own lathe in the shed.
He made me a replacement set out of hardened steel. I actually only wanted one but he made me the set anyway.

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

And Hipshot will soon release their headless system for guitars. Still hardtail though, but I guess if the sale is good the trem version will be available too.

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

Yeah...although I will say I think the newer TransTrem 3s are a much better design. Companies like Moses Graphite are making L-type guitars entirely of graphite again. Carvin now has their headless Holdsworth models which get good reviews. For older models, you may want to check Headless USA.
I know of Moses making replacment necks and there products where used on the Music-yo period Steins but I didn't know they were making "L" type guitars. I was already speaking with Don from Headless...great guy.
I am hoping he can find me a nice GM -7 model.

Edit: had a look at the guitar bodies and necks they offer...pretty cool. Drop in a set of SD's and off you go.

Re: Anyone using a high end Steinberger?

Mincer's love of all things headless just makes it sooooo funny that he won a Custom Dean V - The Mother of all Giant Headstock guitars!!! :lmao:
