I can't help, but agree. The pictures really don't show that much. He needs to take the neck off to see the date on the bottom. Something just doesn't look right here and the fact that this guy's a new seller doesn't help either

Re: anyone wanna lend me 40k?

yeah somethin' smells fishy here but you never know...something like that is a bit scary/risky to buy on ebay IMO.

Re: anyone wanna lend me 40k?

that guy is completely insane if he thinks somebody is gonna shell out 40 grand for a first time e-bay transaction!!!

DUH!!! :smack: :laugh2: :smack:

Re: anyone wanna lend me 40k?

I can get a modified '55 Tele (stripped paint, changed out '60's electronics) for $3700 from a guy in Kentucky-- great player!

The neck wear looks just like what you would find on the relic series.

Re: anyone wanna lend me 40k?

"Esquires, Broadcasters, Telecasters 1950 to 1954 (number on bridgeplate). This system of serial numbers is unique to these three models until about the early summer of 1954 (when Fender switched to a universal neck plate serial number system for all models):

Telecaster, Numbers On Bridge Plate
0001 to 0999 = 1950 to 1952
1000 to 5300 = 1952 to 1954"

You should email him that information so he knows he's lying about it being the first Tele.

Actually, someone should ask him where the serial number is located-- if he says the neck plate, he's full of it.

Re: anyone wanna lend me 40k?

Done and done :).

"Where on the guitar did you read the serial number at?"

Re: anyone wanna lend me 40k?

Could just be that the guy is inexperienced with regard to what serious vintage buyers expect from an ebay listing.

Re: anyone wanna lend me 40k?

Got a response:

"You asked:
"Where on the guitar did you read the serial number at?"

under the snap off cover on the main body. It reads, "Fender Pat. Pend. 3618""
