APH in Strat (bridge)

Honestly... I was expecting something warmer and fatter. But I guess the Strat's too bright for that. Instead I got great note clarity, a more balanced EQ, just the right amount of mids, just the right tightness and level of bass, and a cutting yet not ear scorching treble. I REALLY dig this one in there.

so basically you were expecting something else but like it better anyway? if so congrats

Re: APH in Strat (bridge)

I haven't tried it myself, but I'll bet it does sound good! I had an A2 '59 in a Strat, and that sounded good, but I had to degauss it a bit to get good balance and clarity. Since the APH-1 is basically (from what I can tell) an under-wound A2 '59, it can use the fully-charged A2 magnet without any balance issues.

Re: APH in Strat (bridge)

The APH with A5 and the 59 sound identical to me if you find two with about the same resistance.

Re: APH in Strat (bridge)

Dang I LOVE This baby.

The Jazz sounded most excellent BUT the issue was that not being tremspaced, the high e sounded very thin. Not so with the TBAPH. Sorry for those who feel it's no huge difference, but I feel there is one in some circumstances, and there was here a big difference in spacing.

I'd venture to say the TBAPH is the perfect Strat pickup unless you need uber brutal output :O Well at least for me...

I do wonder how an Alternative 8 would sound in this baby, as it's very thick and meaty sounding. But all that output would alienate those poor single coils.

Re: APH in Strat (bridge)

What single coils do you have there and how do they balance? How is the bridge + middle position? Have you tried the APH split?

I'd love one more strat with a dual APH setup... should be very very good. But I'll have to get a strat with bigger single coils first.

Re: APH in Strat (bridge)

Neck and middle are a APS1 and SSL2. Not sure which is which, nor do I care. Neck staggered, bridge is not. Both Duncans though.

They match up well. I have no split switch for the APH but position 4 is wired for an autosplit, and therefore it's pretty Stratty, though of course not as fun as on a SSS Strat. Pickups output match pretty well once I'd lowered the APH a little.

Re: APH in Strat (bridge)

Then it's an APS1 and SS2 or an APS2 and a SSL1 :laugh2: They both sound like single coils so eh. Whatever. All's good.

Position 4 is so far the most Stratty of all I've tried with the HSS setup...
