well, i dunno if it helps, but i use the one for acoustic guitar, called the 'big bottom' aural exciter (what a name). it adds lower harmonics as well as upper ones, and for either nylon or steel string, i won't play without it again. as far as electric, i don't particularly like the sound, but the best bet is to try it.
I have a JSX head and I'm running a Behringer Feedback eliminator/Parametric EQ in the loop and it sounds awesome. I can boost or cut any freq. in the designated audio range (20 Hz-20 kHz) It really lights that head up! Also try to find a good Chinese pre-amp tube for your v-1 slot. Also I had a Dimebucker and I thought it sucked through the JSX so now I use thd DD or the Invader.
The Aphex Exciter tends to be pretty subtle and studio grade so often you don't really hear it. I have two exciters I use, one is the Boss EH-2 pedal and the other is a rack mounted Audio Logic psycho acoustic processor. I use the EH-2 for straight to the amp stuff and the other with my rack gear. They add a nice little sparkle that helps cut through.
