Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

BloodRose

Professional Scapegoat
Got some big things (none good) going down in my life right now and have to make some gear purges.

Whats an average selling rate for a JCM800 2205 these days? It works fine. Cosmetically, its not pristine. (not beat up by any means) but had someones name painted on top in black (its faint now) the input jacks are alittle chipped up. (the plastic) It was modded with a Jubilee mod so the last part of the gain sweep gives more of a Jubilee tone. And it was recapped and all in 2008 and hasnt seen alot of play since.

I also have a PV Ultra plus Head that works great and is close to mint shape from the last year they made them.

Just looking for PRICING ideas. I dont want to have to sell anything, (of course) but for as little as I get to play, I dont need several heads. And Its gonna gut me to move the guitars..

I also need to sell a Carvin 4x12. Got their British series speakers in it.

THANKS

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=jcm800&_sop=16

I don't know if the mod is desirable or not, a cosmetically stock but modded amp would not deter me, mods can be reversed
Try putting it on ebay with a starting price of $1750 you might get some bids, you may get a PM and an off ebay offer of around $1500.
Don't give it away they're sought after amps and not depreciating in value

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Those Ebay prices are Whack. I've never paid over $900 CAN for any of mine. Mind you I got good deals, but $1,750 is too high imo.

Although, searching through classifieds locally it seems some guys here are out to lunch too, asking $1,800-$2,000 etc. And some more reasonable guys asking $1,000-$1,200. Seems here you get guys that go online and read the earlier Canadian models are the most valuable and think they can get that much. I own 2 JCM800's and I'm a BIG fan, but I wouldn't pay that much for one.

Given yours is a 2205 (less desirable) and has the paint/ modded. You could probably get $1,500 given the prices I'm seeing.

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Feel free to let me hold the Carvin cab if you can't get rid of it,but it'll prolly be kinda banged up if/when you get it back!!!
:p

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Since the market is difficult these days, and the fact that you won't get collector dollars for any of it....here's my appraisal.

2205 in fair condition....$500 - $650. 2204's go for $800 - $1400. The stenciled paint is a deal breaker for most buyers, so try and get it off with Goof Off. Pull the chassis out, and detail clean the whole thing for max dollars.

Peavey Ultra Plus 120 minty. $550 - $650

Carvin Cab. Tough since you can't ship, and it's a Carvin. $250?

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Not sure if this helps, but back in about 2006, I sold my used Marshall 2210 (good/fair shape, no mods) on E-bay for $1200.

(2210 is the 100watter version of the 2205)

Unfortunately I have to agree with Gearjoneser, at least when it comes to craigslist. A clean 2205 might fetch $800-900, but the paint will detract a little and the mod will detract a lot unless it was done and documented by a well-known and reputed tech.

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

If Gearjonser's estimates are in the right ballpark, I'd buy the 2205 from you sight unseen. That happens to be the head I prefer from the JCM series and I currently don't have one.

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Yeah, the 2205 isn't the most sought after 800, but it is the channel switching 50 watter. If the mod made it better sounding, there will be a buyer for it. As always, the cleaner the tolex and face plate, the more you can get. I get repro set screw knobs from Tube Depot to restore Marshalls.

I also pull out grillcloth and restore it with RIT Dye from the grocery store. It makes Marshalls look new again. Murphy's Oil Soap for tolex.

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Thanks guys!! Yeah, Im a realist and was figuring pretty close to what GJ was saying.. Ive also tried removing the name. no luck. Luckily, its in black and not bold white or something and it not real noticable, but I know it is a definate negative.. The PV is pretty minty. And I was figuring 200-250 for the cab.. Just hard to move cuz its not easily to ship. Randy, You need one?? If the hammer falls, like I fear its going to, and I cant sell it, I may take you up on that.. I need the dough tho, so gotta try to sell it first..

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

I hear ya,man.

All the best with things,tho...

:)

Thanks...

Let me paint you a picture... Over the course of this month....

I am going to have to put my daughter back in rehab. She has been in trouble with the law and all cuz of her use..

The company I work for did not get their contract renewed with the network of hospitals we serve, so unless I find something quick, Ill be unemployed as of April 15.

The brakes on my car are shot and Im going to have to do get it fixed. BUT>> its so bad the rotors need replaced to and so Im looking at well over a grand...

And..... after 28 years.. My wife whom is now finally making a good living, tells me "I no longer love you, we need to split up" ....

Just to name the big points.. A whole lot more ""smaller bummers" happening too

I think we talked about it on another thread, but I TOTALLY think you should put together "Dr. GJ's Marshall Restoration Kits" and sell them on eBay. Little bottle of Murphy's, some dye, goof-off and diluted CLR for the chassis... Slap a cool sticker on the pack with some before and after pics and you are golden!

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Wow BR, that is rough.

Hang in there, it's going to be a rough few months, best of luck get through it.

Thanks Bro!! I hope things are getting alil easier for you. Worst part of the D for me, is I have no money.. Im making payments for car repairs and medical issues and all the rehab bills and stuff for my last two kids.. And if I loose my job, it gets worse.. obviously...

Good idea! even tho most of the stuff is readily avail, it would be easier than having to round it all up.

Thanks ! Ive looked on Amazon, but no one sells umbrellas for a S**T storm.. haha

Jesus dude, I'm sorry to hear all that.

Best of luck to you my friend.

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Wow am I sorry to hear all of that stuff BloodRose. The thing with the wife really hits me though. I just can't imagine that level of betrayal or pain. I wish you all the best and will include you in my prayers. Keep the faith and keep playing music whenever you can. Nothing bad in life lasts.

Re: Approx value of 1984 JCM 800 2205? PV Ultra Plus?

Yeah, Bloodrose....it's time to take care of yourself, first and foremost, and see if better communication with the wife will help. Maybe some tough love with the daughter is wiser than putting yourself in debt over her stupidity and poor choices.

I realize it appears my life is sunshine, rainbows, and gear on here, but my life has always been a rollercoaster ride with constant struggles....money, family, women and booze....I come here to escape it, which I know you do too.

Thanks for prayers and well wishes guys! means alot..

Gearjoneser, Bro, thats one thing I never assume. Is that everyone else has it rosey. Nearly everyone has their share of issues too. For that reason, I almost didnt (at first I didnt) mention my issues. But did put it up as Rand-o and I are buds outside the forum and since Ive moved, sadly this is about the only way he and I can communicate.. My wife goes into poor me mode.. Why does god hate me? why is this happening to us? no one else has these probs... etc.. She works around alot of Upscale people and she hears the office stories of how people go on expensive trips, kids are prom king or queen, and so on..I have to always remind her that most people, just like on facebook and stuff, share the good stories.. most people are going to come into the office and share that their child is using meth or something..
I also consider many of my forum bros bros as well and if I can be of any help to you Joe, let me know..

As far as the tough love thing.. she is still 16, so legally Im still responsible.. So if Im not doing for her her, then her "crimes" come back to me.. If she was 18, Id have to draw a line.. Which Im praying that day doesnt come and that she can kick this by then.. Cuz that will be the hardest thing in the world is letting my baby girl fall.. Only thing harder will be burying her.. She is my youngest of my 5.
