Approximate dimentions please PRS

I'm about to embark on a PRS "style" build, a soapbar 2, sorta, i'll be using HB sized P90s, in case I wanna change to HBs in the future.
I chose the soapbar cause I believe they're flat top (no carving)
I ordered a neck, which is on the way.
The wood I have is solid maple, (very,heavy) & i've already cut 3/4 off the top to allow for weight relief.
I'll have a better idea when the neck arrives (should be a couple days), but I wanted to ask anyone who owns a soapbar 2 what the body thickness is.

The PRS SE Soapbar II (double cutaway) model is the same body thickness as the SE Standard and the first two versions of the Santana SE. Unfortunately, I do not own any of those models. The PRS website might quote the dimensions in the instrument specs.

One thing that I will say, however, the bigger the neck, the bigger the sound that you will get. I have PRS SE One and single cutaway Soapbar guitars. The SE One has a thicker body but a skinnier neck than the s/c Soapbar. It also has a thinner sound - both acoustically and amplified.

In my opinion, you will want to change to humbuckers fairly quickly.

For reasons I cannot pretend to explain, THE magic formula for Gibson Junior and Special style electric guitars is P90s and Mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard. No other combination produces quite the same result. Even an Ebony fingerboard changes things for the worse.

The recent Gibson Melody Maker series guitars use mostly maple. They have a distinct voice of their very own BUT this is not the same voice as the classic slab.

I've been considering this.
I was thinling that the maple slab, with the short scale hog/ rosewood neck, might balance somewhat, but i'm not totally convinced.
Mahogany isn't readily ava here in ky.

Might as well stick with the materials that you already have.

With so much maple in the equation, I would be inclined to take the weight relief idea to semi-solid, Thinline proportions. e.g. Somewhere between a PRS SE Semi-Hollow and a Rickenbacker.

The "body" i have glued together is app 15/16.

The bottom pic is the 2 piece cap. I have a nice simi flame veneer on the way also, & i've been trolling ebay for a reasonably priced piece of mahogany.
All the maple pictured has an app weight of about 7-8lbs. Add neck, hardware pups...I'm thinking about 12-14lbs:nervous:
I don't have a scale so i'm probably underestimating, this s*#t is heavy

Found this picture some time ago. It's from a PRS but I can't recall if it was a Custom or a McCarty.

The PRS pic is a Custom. A McCarty would be thicker and, normally, have a fixed wrap over bridge.

Seven to eight Pounds is my idea of the weight of a complete solid body guitar. Worn on a strap, your project will leave you bent over like Mike Mushock.

The maple blocks look good on top of the table - like a good quality vegetable chopping board.

lol It might well wind up a chopping block!!
I went shopping on the bay last night for a suitable pice of hog, so the maple might wind up getting planned down for a cap.
Even with the hog, i'll be doing some weight relief, my 3 compressed discs just won't put up with a heavy axe.
I have an LP studio that's weight relieved, & it's a push to stand & play.
Oddly enough, the SG standard I have weighs just as much as the lp, if not a little more.
Problem now is I have 8 ft 5in of this maple that's 9 1/2 wide x 1 15/16 thick!

At first inspection, it beats my expectations.
There's a small imperfection in the 12th fret, & one of the 5th fret bird's wing is slightly raised.
The finish is pretty smooth, but i'll do some fine sanding anyway, probably 600 then 1000 grit
Overall, I'd have to say, I'm VERY pleased with my $59 investment.:cool2:

Now the bad news, with the maple I have being so heavy, I was planning on the body thickness being about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4.
From the bottom of the binding at the front, the neck is 1 5/8. At the back where it would set into the body, it works out to be 1 3/4. Time to drop back & punt.
This is reminding of something my Dad always told me
"Son, PROPER PLANNING PREVENTS PISS POOR PERFORMANCE"...God,...I miss him....

In the fourth photograph, the fret behind the offending bird inlay looks as if it is lifting. Maybe, the fingerboard shrank? Try lemon oiling the bejesus out of it.

I have lemon oil standing by, but I thought i'd let it acclimate to the temp in the house here first. it's been in the cold for a while, i just hope it doesn't swell too quick, & push the frets off the board lol.
I'll check it again tomarrow, hopefully things will settle back to right.
I'll keep you posted
