Are all JB's virtually unusable?

Re: Are all JB's virtually unusable?

Ive had my JB in my basswood Ibanez RG for a year now and Never have had ANY trouble with it....It cleans up very nice with the volume knob....No feed back at all since ive had it...The Jazz is a sweet pup as well....

Re: Are all JB's virtually unusable?

I mean I barely know what the point of this post is. The question isn't serious and the OP made it clear already that his JB is different from others that he tried. He also already said he's lost full faith in the SD company already so he's not really here to restore that.

There's no solution to this problem because the problem already got" solved" and the OP's mind is made up.

Don't get me wrong. If you got a defective pickup then you have every right to complain, but if you say you'll never buy a Duncan pickup again and then follow it up with a bitter question that you already know the answer to after taking the problem into your own hands and solving it in a way that didn't prove beneficial to you because you didn't come here sooner, then you're just griping to gripe. You don't actually need help with anything and even if help was extended to you, you seem that you wouldn't be satisfied anyway; plus you already returned the product to the distributor.

So unless you are specifically asking for something from Duncan Customer Service or for actual advice regarding how to fix your grievance, what is the point of your post? If people around here dislike the JB it is because of tonal preference tailored specifically to IT, not performance issues tied to the product quality of the whole company like you are suggesting.

My sentiments are with the others: either it's some form of user error with how it was installed or some other factor in your rig was contributing to the problem or it was a defective pickup and responsibility should've been taken by the dealer where you bought it. Duncan can't really do anything at this point and your mind seems made up anyway.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, I don't mean to be.

Re: Are all JB's virtually unusable?

Hey Keith, did you ask the shop for another JB? It wouldn't be sent back to SD just to check it, more likely the store would replace it and the distributor would replace that. Sorry you had a bad experience with this, I'll talk with our customer service team and try and find your message to see why you didn't get a fast response with a solution (like contacting Rosetti).

+1 To this! Just another awesome thing about this forum, not only do you get info/help from fellow guitar players but also from the Seymour Duncan employees.

Re: Are all JB's virtually unusable?

The neck pickup was fine with a bit of treble rolled off but the JB howled its head off with medium gain and volume - it was unusable.

This has not been my experience with my JB, though I only own the one and have moved it around from guitar to guitar. It's a great versatile rock pickup. In my case, in SGs, Melody Makers and Les Pauls only, it sounded mostly mids and didn't have any high-end chime or deep low end thump. Tried it through half-stacks to modelers to small combos. But it took any amount of gain well. Personally, I just didn't get enough bite out of it and it hasn't mixed well with the various neck pups I tried so far. Still have an open mind on it. YMMV

So I emailed Seymour Duncan and never got a reply - not what I expected.

This has been my experience, after the initial help. After that, no response from direct communication after months of trying. Though if you post it here, then suddenly someone takes an interest. But I stopped buying because of this, until I hear it changes. They need to always take care of customers directly, not just stamp down on embarrassing stories here.

Re: Are all JB's virtually unusable?

Got the feeling a lot of people just got trolled... HARD

Haha! Never thought of that! lol :kabong::chairshot:stooges::smack::smash:

I wonder how often that actually happens. Probably more than a lot of us realize.

Probably more than I would like to know! :chairfall

Sorry you've had issues dude, but I've always received awesome quick communication with Seymour Duncan. Wilde Bill Lawrence has very long delayed communication–but if I gave up on them just because of their delayed response then I would not have the joy of their awesome products. FWIW, I think this Forum helps that problem, Scott Olson even said he would talk to Customer Service to see if they could find his message to see what happened (assuming he did in fact send a message.)

Re: Are all JB's virtually unusable?

The answer to the question in the thread title is: no.

...also bear in mind that the Op has only one post and has not replied to anyone's feedback...

Re: Are all JB's virtually unusable?

Troll or not, he DID kinda kick a hornet's nest and managed to get a bunch of us worked up... Lol!
