Are Gibson's M2 and Firebird Zero essentially the same?

Different pickups and body shape, but other than that, what's different about them?

I tried a black on black F Zero yesterday in my local GC and I was amazed at how great the neck was. It had the leaning bridge issue, but the action was decently low all the way up the neck.

The Zero body and headstock shape are not for me. I tried it to see what the neck and bridge were like more than anything else.

Anyone here own or tried both? Enlighten me on the similarities and differences if so.

Firebird is solid poplar, M2 is multiply poplar.

Just reading the title - probably

Gibson lying? Not unheard of.

I am constantly annoyed by sites listing both 25.5 and 24.75 scales on certain models

Go by Gibson's description.

I liked both but I could only find the M2 in a hideous green in store. I bought the Zero, I love it fwiw, mine plays great with a setup. It played pretty well and was definitely right for me before the setup but smoothing up the board and cleaning some fret ends made a huge difference. I also took a bit of paint over-spray out of the bridge ferrule area which let me get the height down a hair. It isn't perfect but it is fun, cool, funky and reasonably inexpensive. .

The body shapes make a big difference in balance but the Zero is so light it is hardly an issue. The pickups take some dialing in to find the right height, at least they did for me, but they're pretty good just not quite traditional Gibson sounding IMO.

And...now that I finally got my new to me 2007 Melody Maker back from the shop, I am feeling no need for an M2. Funny how that works.
