What sounds good to you is all that matters. As said everyone's opinion differs, it's just a matter of personal preference. Just try out a bunch of ss amps and see what sounds best to your ears, after all your the one thats gonna be playing through it.

I haven't had the pleasure to try one of those Vox heads, but they definitely sound like the "perfect solution" (ooops.......can o' worms opening!). :rolleyes: :smack:

I think the older ss amps weren't necessarily very good but I think they can be quite good nowadays. Just like any other piece of equipment there is good stuff and there is bad stuff. I often wonder if somebody did a blind taste test between ss digital and tube how many players who claim they could tell the difference actually could.

As for cutting through, I think that has less to do with the make of the amp and more to do with the way you set your controls. You may have to tweak different amps differently. Also a 50 watt ss amp is just not going to be as loud as a 50 watt tube amp. Its just the nature of the beast.

i have plugged into just as many tube amps that sound horrible too.

Well if u want a ss head and you like the sound of the bandit, you could always just chop off most of the cab and turn it into a head right?

Dimebag used a SS Randall for most of his career. It always sounded pretty sick, but I'd be willing to bet that 90% of that tone was coming straight from Dime.

Go to the store, test stuff out, and trust your ears. Don't let the preconception of what you "should" get or "should" want cloud your judgement.

IIRC, Peavey used to make a Bandit head...
