Are there any humbucking p90s?

Re: Are there any humbucking p90s?

Nope. Odds are good it'd be too muddy - first straight from impedance strangling some of your trebles, then the humbucker effect removing more.

Re: Are there any humbucking p90s?

You could wire any 2 p90 guitar to do that.
Tonally see above.

Why not just buy a humbucker or a p90 stack. You'd spend extra money to wire up something like 2 p90s next to each other, and lose anything good or special that the p90 would have given you in the first place.

.

I've wired a couple P-90 guitars a push-pull to be able to link the PU's in series instead of parallel, making them a virtual HB. It's a useable tone for solos (warm, powerful), but not what you'd want all the time. If the two coils were actually side-by-side in the same PU, they'd be way too dark and overpowering. Same thing happens when you link two HB's in series (like in the Jimmy Page system); it's really only useable if the neck PU is in coil cut.

Re: Are there any humbucking p90s?

I will say that I built a mahogany P-90 Tele for a friend of mine, and used the 4-way Tele wiring, with the 4th position being both pickups in series.

Sounds freaking huge, but there's no frequency cancellation due to the humbucker effect since one is not RW. Also, the pickups are farther apart than if they were a single mammoth humbucker.

Hm. Might be worth trying, with one in the middle and one in the bridge, for maximum treble content.

Re: Are there any humbucking p90s?

I have a guitar with the 4-way switch and 4th position is neck and bridge in series...it is EXTREMELY rare that I ever use that combination. It's way too thick and heavy.

Re: Are there any humbucking p90s?

*nods* It is definitely a "I'm not gonna use this all the time" flavor, but it is a nice one to have on tap.

It sounds killer when used with Tele coils, for instance. But again, not what I'd use that guitar for *all the time*.

Re: Are there any humbucking p90s?

Did the OP mean noise cancelling P90's? Because there are noise cancelling P90's. Although I haven't heard one I like.

Re: Are there any humbucking p90s?

Well, there are P90 stacks, but most people prefer the regular P90 sound. Two P-90s in series sound warm and woolly to me...I'd just get a humbucker in a P-90 case.
