Are Tokai guitars any good? Better than strats?

Re: Are Tokai guitars any good? Better than strats?

Depends. They are at least on par with Fender, IMO. Yes, SRV used and endorsed Tokai's.

Yep.....SRV endorsed and used a Tokai strat and there are pictures of it on the Tokai site...The Tokai stuff is great, especially the older Japan made ones..Talk about painstakin detail and great playing and sounding guitars....I absolutely love my Tokai Love Rock...Phenomenal stuff...

SRV also was in ads for Robin guitars years ago....

They really are great. The quality of vintage Fenders, at a much lower price.

Good quality guitars. equivalent to MIJ fenders in quality. Put seymours in them and they are great. I would rate them a notch under the quality of the US fender reissues, due to poly finishes, common use of basswood for bodies, and average pickups. No match for a genuine 50s or 60s fender though.

Absolutely. I think the older Tokais are as good as the MIJ (which I think are better than the regular (non-Custom Shop) MIA). I really wish I had bought a bunch of the MIJ guitars in the 1990s when they were all over the place.

I have a Tokai 62 Tele copy and a Tokai 79 Strat copy and I love 'em both. I have Kinmans in mine but Duncans would sound great in them, too.
