Are you a knob twidler.......

When it comes to players , there are basically two kinds. when playing a live gig, do you twidle with the knobs all night( constantly trying to find just the right sound)? Or, do you basically set it and forget it? Once I find the right sound, I usually leave it alone. Many years ago, I used to twidle with it all night long.(of course thats when I played thru a s.s. amp) What kind of player are you?

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

Not too much. Usually during the first couple of songs, as soundcheck levels always change once a crowd is introduced.

I'm definitely a 'leave it' player. My main amp has three knobs for a reason...

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

Pretty much on the leave it alone side myself... unless something is very wrong...

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

I don't play out, but I'm constantly tweaking stuff. I've unplugged pedals, got out the soldering iron, changed a component, hooked it back up, and started playing right where I was before.

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

I'm actually a little of both. I've been known to mess with knobs for hours, but I cna't remember the last time I dialed in my amp, it's perfect now.

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

I have 2 knobs on my amp, 2 knobs on my guitar, and 3 pickup settings to choose from. I don't change them at all.

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

Live I don't mess with the knobs too much, only the volume..........I do however twidle with the knobs quite a bit at practice. I've been using a Splawn Quickrod for 6 months now and the knob twidling has slowed down now that I've gotten the amp dialed in.........

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

I think I'm a little of both as well. I usually have a general idea of how my knobs should be set, so for the most part I leave it. If I do adjust anything its just the bass and the mid frequencies. I usually do adjusting within the first or second song of the set and I find a setting I like and leave it for the rest of the show.

It all depends on the venue..the life of your strings, theres a few different factors that determine how my knobs will be set.

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

I mess around when I get something new, to learn the range and what it does, then I just go for the sound it does best and leave it there, with small adjustments to fit in.

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

the amp stays the same, the pedals too. i constantly tweak the volume, tone, and pickup switch on the guitar though- amazing how much that changes the sound.

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

The knobs on my amp haven't moved since 1989, I go through pots in my guitars like toilet paper, but that's just me. Between PU selection, volume control and playing style... I've been pretty well set for awhile..

Re: Are you a knob twidler.......

I have to set it and leave it other wise I will be twisting the knobs more than I will be playing.

This is why my next guitar will have 1 pup! Maybe its not such a good idea I am getting a POD. oh well!
