Pedals are great especially if you need several dirty tones. If you play in a cover band and do a variety of material you may go from clean, to a little hair, medium overdrive, Marshall type crunch to fully saturated lead tones....pedals have their place.

I don't know of an amp that can do "everything"....that being said, if I were to play music of a similar vein all night I would go for an amp that would give the single best tone available.

Amp distortion.....unless your amp is a crate

I had a v-32 and you can do a LOT worse for an overdrive tone. If you turn the clean channel up to about 7 or so it is very nice.

touched a nerve with the crate guys huh? hey Ive had a couple crate amps too.....and I sold em (in all fairness mine were solid state)
