Arion tubulator :)

It will slightly change the sound. Adds a light amount of sizzle (distortion) and a touch of midrange with the gain all the way down.

No power adapter. Batteries are the order of the day. It doesn't seem like a power hog though. I've ran mine for hours and it's still going strong on the original 9v battery.

Cool, I'll think about it, for the price it's almost stupid not to try it out, if I don't like it I haven't lost alot of money on it.

Re: Arion tubulator :)

Btw: If you need a power supply..the One Spot by Visual Sound seems to be very cool. So if you want to get rid of them..I´d go with the one spot.

Re: Arion tubulator :)

What's your take on it Kaffimann? Give Sune a review of the pedal he's considering. My ears and my opinion doesn't carry the weight of two sets of ears and two opinions... I'd like to hear SeraphimTN give a thorough review also.

Well,i`m not good at this!
I don`t have a ibanez TS so i`m not able to compare it.
But,it have a very warm"tube" sound and will do great as a boost in my tube amp.
I think you wrote a acurate review and totally agree on that:)

Well, I don't know exactly, they have different percentage claims for different products.. But when I got one of my guitars from the states, I think it was close to like 39%, I'm not totally sure but it was very expensive.

Thanks. I appreciate the vote of confidence. I just thought it would be good to get one other person than me to give it a thorough workout and post their thoughts about it. Maybe Brisk will do the honors one day or SeraphimTN. I know Brisk is going to buy one. He's a bigger gear whore than almost anyone I know of...

Re: Arion tubulator :)

Thus far, mine has been run into a traynor with extension cab (don't know the model, but it's Brisk's amp), Silvertone 1482 and Celtic Edana.

Re: Arion tubulator :)

Apon request, I'll chime in. I'm running a Schecter "Constantine" fuzzy Damien guitar with an EMG 85 in the bridge and a H single coil in the neck. That goes into the Tubulator, then into a wah, fender tuner, then wireless, then into the amp with a soon to be Rocktron Short Timer in the effects loop. I got the Arion in the middle of recording so I haven't had a long extensive trial with it. I started using it for recording solo's pushing my amp more because the attax doesn't have a ton of gain, which I like, but for solo's I like more gain, hence the Arion. I have my amp set at half gain with the arion gain all the way down and the tone all the way left(low) but only during recording. and the level almost all the way up. I does absolutely no coloring of my tone whatsoever, turning the tone knob produces almost nothing audible, only when down low. When engaged with the amp gain, it does add some grit, which is good, but I have to experience it in practice to tell you better. So far I give this pedal a but ol 8, and only because the case is plastic, but feels sturdy. Get this pedal PERIOD, even if you don't need it! It cost me almost 20 bucks to buy and ship it, unbeatable.

Re: Arion tubulator :)

Greetings,
I'm new to this forum, but not new to "Tubulators". I have had 2 for about a year now. They cannot be beat for the money. My signal chain is guitar->Boss CS3 compressor->tubulator#1(set very low)->tubulator#2(set hotter)->Fender Super Sonic 112. With each unit set differently, you can get 3 varied levels of overdrive. If you guys are interested, I'll try to post a clip demoing the differences.

Re: Arion tubulator :)

Here you go - the volume was only a little louder than conversation level. Turn it up, it gets wild!
0-:04 clean
04-08 tubulator #1 on (right unit)
08-014 tubulator #2 on (left unit)
15->both on

Re: Arion tubulator :)

:yell: Calling all pedal modders, like Stratdeluxer, are these moddable? Are they anything like a TS circuit, or just some cool sonic duplication using totally different means? For that price, I would think there would be some super-cheap mods like upgrading component quality that would make this thing beyond a bargain. You could buy two and start screwing with caps and resistors, put it in a different, perhaps metal chassis with a true bypass. I realize it would still be a "toy" to the boutique snobs, but sometimes everyone needs toys.

Also I had their Analog delay 15 years ago. It was totally dirty and midrangy. At the time I thought that sucked, but now for $25 I'll probably get another one just to see if it's the same.

To be honest, I don't think there's much if any room for improvement. One could add more gain, but the circuit is really nice all by itself. I can't honestly think of what I would do to make it SOUND better. The main complaint people have with this pedal is that it has a cheap case and a cheap switch. Other than that, people universally seem to love it's sound. Someone out there does something called the whizzer mod, but that's all I've heard about it. I doubt it's much of an improvement to be honest. The only mod that would be worth it adds more gain. To do this, one would either have to sacrifice their clean boost capabilities or add a switch that acts as a boost. Anything else would require a new case to have full gain sweep on one knob.
