ash telecaster and bridge humbucker to tail it down

Hi

I'm new to this forum...it is wery good place for information about guitar tone, I love it.

I have custom telecaster (not fender) with ash body and rosewood fingerboard.

i have fender vintage tremolo and humbucker in bridge and single coil in neck, so It is really a batard of telecaster and fat strat.

right now i have dimarzios (FRED and VV) and my tone is too shrill, to bright and too punchy.

my amp is 74' bassman 100.

so I'am going to buy duncans, and I will definitely go for alnico 2 pro for neck, but I don't know about the bridge.

I'm thinking of seth lover, alnico2 pro h, and phat cat...maybe even perly gates.

what do you think?
I have nightmares from shrill trebly sound my FRED gives me on my tick ash body wich is extremely ressonant(VV is actualy quite good and will keep it so I can change alnico 2 pro and VV If I feel to it)

btw.
sound I'm looking for is nice warm bluesy tone wich I will use together with my drive pedals to get hopefully great alter/rock tone I have in my head.

Hi and welcome to the forum!!

You're right about the Fred being a little shrill. I have one in a basswood bofy guitar and it really twangs. I can see how an ash body would give it more thinness. Personally, all your choices are good. My personal choice for you would be either an Alnico 2 Pro or Pearly Gates.

Re: ash telecaster and bridge humbucker to tail it down

may i ask what value pots are you using? you can use lower value pots with higher value caps to tone the treble down a bit. if that doesn't work, its time for a duncan.

Re: ash telecaster and bridge humbucker to tail it down

well...I'm going to use no tone pots, only 2 volume pots, and was thinking of standard (500kohm and 250kohm).

I'm definitely replacing FRED...I'm not happy niether with treblyness nither harmonic responce.
when I bought it i was in different kind of music, and It was ok then.

Do you think not using tone pots will give me difficulties with Duncans?

No problem without tone pots, but with 250k volume and a tonepot you can bring a trebley pup really down.
My choice would be a Duncan Custom Custom or a DiMarzio VV Hot PAF - i have both of them. They are both warm, but thicker and have more beef than a seth or a Alnico pro 2.

thanx for suggestion, but I would like vintage output, and I don't know how CC would go together with alnico pro single coil in neck.
there probably would be too much volume difference.

I think I decided to go with alnico 2 pro humbucker with nickel cover.

so what do you think.
with alnico2 pro humbucker in bridge and alnico 2 pro single coil in the neck how will balance of output volume be? if I'm using standard pot values for single coil and humbucker? (250, 500khom)
